Damit wird ein Miteinander ermöglicht, das Erfahrungen und Ressourcen eröffnet, die nicht nur den kirchlichen, sondern auch den gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt und Gemeinsinn zu befördern und zu stärken vermögen. [Diversity and Public Spirit The Evangelical Church's Contribution to Freedom and Social Cohesion: A Fundamental Text of the EKD Chamber for Public Responsibility] Promoting what we have in common while preserving the diversity and freedom of the individual – this balancing act is one of the central challenges of our time for church and society. It is necessary to define a unifying framework that at the same time allows for individual, diverse positions. The EKD's Chamber for Public Responsibility sheds light on how the Protestant faith can contribute with its ideas, places and practices: In educational action, in diaconal aid action, and in the commitment to peace and justice, corresponding attitudes of community spirit are not only exemplified but also practised. The basis of such public-mindedness is that every human being is regarded equally as a creature of God. This makes possible a cooperation that introduces experiences and resources capable of promoting and strengthening not only church but also social cohesion and community spirit.
