Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2020 im Fachbereich Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,7, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Seminar für alte Geschichte), Veranstaltung: Monarchische Herrschaft im Altertum, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Leistungen Philipp II. als einen "guten" König herauszuarbeiten und dabei die Komplexität dieser Aufgabe in Bezug auf die Fragilität des makedonischen Königreiches zu erörtern. Zur Bearbeitung der Leitfrage, ob Philipp II. als ein "guter" Monarch angesehen werden kann, dient die These, dass Philipp hauptverantwortlicher bei der nachhaltigen Stabilisierung Makedoniens ist und richtet sich dann hauptsächlich auf Philipps Maßnahmen zur Machterhaltung. Das Jahr 393 v. Chr. dient dann als Beispiel eines schlechten makedonischen Königs. Der Untersuchungszeitraum beschränkt sich somit hauptsächlich zwischen der Geburt Philipps II. (382 v.Chr.) und dem tatsächlichen Beginn der Expansionspolitik. Der Anfangspunkt ist dadurch begrünet, dass Philipp II. schon in seiner Kindheit und Jugend wichtige Lektionen gelernt hat, die ihm in seiner späteren Laufbahn immer wieder sehr nützlich werden. Die Einnahme von Amphipolis (357 v. Chr.), oder Olynthos (348. v. Chr.) bilden das Untersuchungsende, weil diese Schlachten den makedonischen Aufstieg zur Hegemonialmacht besiegelten. Als erstes beginnt die Darstellung des antiken Makedoniens. Um nun eine differenzierte Erklärung zu erhalten müssen sowohl die physisch‐geographischen als auch die naturräumlichen Aspekte bei der Ausgangslage zur Hilfe genommen und diese näher begutachtet werden. Daraufhin wird das Königtum mit seinen Strukturen aufgezeigt. Als Abschluss folgt dann das Beispiel zu schlechten Königen (393 v. Chr.). Weiterführend wird Philipp II. behandelt. Nach einer kurzen Biographie folgt schon die Ausgangslage, bei der Philipp bei seinem Regierungsantritt steht und danach seine Lösung. Aufgrund dessen thematisiert der nächste Abschnitt weitergehende Reformen unter Philipp. Diese militärischen, ökonomischen und kultureller Reformen sollen aber nicht willkürlich sein, sondern unter dem Aspekt eines Flaigschen Akzeptanzsystems erfolgt sein. Somit ergeben sich folgende Thesen. Bei der Frage, ob ein Monarch "gut", oder "schlecht" ist, beginnt die Untersuchung bei der Staatsform selbst. Da bieten sich die Werke von Aristoteles an, der sich in seiner poltika mit den möglichen Staatsformen auseinandersetzt. Die Frage ist, ob die makedonische Monarchie als basileus, oder als tyrannis zählt. Nachdem die Staatsform klar ist, erkennt man Probleme in der innermakedonischen Machtstruktur. Der König hat keine absolute Macht. Die Monarchen geben nämlich nur so wenig Kompetenzen ab wie möglich.

Called by Plutarch "the oldest and greatest of Alexander's successors," Antigonos the One-Eyed (382-301 BC) was the dominant figure during the first half of the Diadoch period, ruling most of the Asian territory conquered by the Macedonians during his final twenty years. Billows provides the first detailed study of this great general and administrator, establishing him as a key contributor to the Hellenistic monarchy and state. After a successful career under Philip and Alexander, Antigonos rose to power over the Asian portion of Alexander's conquests. Embittered by the persistent hostility of those who controlled the European and Egyptian parts of the empire, he tried to eliminate these opponents, an ambition which led to his final defeat in 301. In The Unvarnished Doctrine, Steven M. Dworetz addresses two critical issues in contemporary thinking on the American Revolution—the ideological character of this event, and, more specifically, the relevance of "America’s Philosopher, the Great Mr. Locke," in this experience. Recent interpretations of the American revolution, particularly those of Bailyn and Pocock, have incorporated an understanding of Locke as the moral apologist of unlimited accumulation and the original ideological crusader for the "spirit of capitalism," a view based largely on the work of theorists Leo Strauss and C. B. Macpherson. Drawing on an examination of sermons and tracts of the New England clergy, Dworetz argues that the colonists themselves did not hold this conception of Locke. Moreover, these ministers found an affinity with the principles of Locke’s theistic liberalism and derived a moral justification for revolution from those principles. The connection between Locke and colonial clergy, Dworetz maintains, constitutes a significant, radicalizing force in American revolutionary thought.
