Für einen Gehirnforscher scheint eine Ursachenzuschreibung von Lernprozessen leichter möglich zu sein als für einen Pädagogen. Das ist auf den ersten Blick verlockend, weil es das "Technologiedefizit" der Pädagogik ausgleichen könnte. Allerdings ist die Pädagogik keine Inselwissenschaft - längst hat sie sich mit den Ergebnissen anderer Wissenschaften, wie eben der Hirnforschung und der pädagogischen Psychologie, auseinandergesetzt. Aber sie versucht nicht zu beantworten, woher Intelligenz kommt. Dies ist ein Kernthema der Psychologie- und Hirnforschung. Intelligenztests sollen nach Roth die aussagekräftigsten Tests der Psychologie sein. Sie können Menschen einteilen, aber nicht die Ursachen erklären – die sind vielfältig und trotz jahrzehntelanger Forschung gar nicht so eindeutig.
