During the Second World War the 'Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg' was set up, an organisation which aimed for the elimination of Jewish cultural life in the rest of Europe. A 'Sonderstab Musik' was also established, staffed by distinguished German musicologists whose task was to locate musical manuscripts, books and instruments. Its initial target was the possessions of Jewish musicians and composers who had fled the Nazi regime, but in the end it boiled down to a general confiscation and removal of Jewish possessions, including those connected with music-making. This book describes the activities of the 'Sonderstab Musik' in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

This study examines the social, economic and intellectual factors that caused German musical scholars to support the ideological aims of the Nazis, and argues that many of the ideas that served the regime survived the Nazi period to influence the conception of music history down to the present.

Introduction To Reading The Pentateuch written by Jean Louis Ska and has been published by Eisenbrauns this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Bible categories.

When Jean Louis Ska's Introduzione alla lettura del Pentateuco was first published in Italy, it was quickly hailed as the most attractive and usable introduction to the Pentateuch to appear in modern times. Because of its strengths, it was soon translated into French. The English translation published by Eisenbrauns has been completely reviewed and updated (including the bibliography) by Ska. Among the book's many strengths are its close attention to the ways in which modern cultural history has affected Pentateuchal interpretation, attention to providing the kinds of examples that are helpful to students, presentation of a good balance between the history of interpretation and the data of the text, and the clarity of Ska's writing. For both students and scholars, many consider this book the best contemporary introduction to the Pentateuch.

Thresholds written by Marcel Cobussen and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-01 with Music categories.

In Thresholds, Marcel Cobussen rethinks the relationship between music and spirituality. The book presents an idea of spirituality in and through music that counters strategies of exclusion and mastering of alterity and connects it to wandering, erring, and roving. Cobussen regards spirituality as a (non)concept that escapes categorization, classification, and linguistic descriptions. Spirituality is a-topological, non-discursive and a manifestation of 'otherness'. And it is precisely music (or better: listening to music) that induces these thoughts. By carefully encountering, analysing, and evaluating certain examples from classical, jazz, pop and world music it is possible to detach spirituality from concepts of otherworldliness and transcendentalism.

The Hittites The Story Of A Forgotten Empire written by Archibald Henry Sayce and has been published by Library of Alexandria this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1890-01-01 with History categories.

The Hittites were an Anatolian people living in what is now Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon. The empire started in the 18th century BCE, peaking in the 14th century BCE and finally trailing off around 1180 BCE with the collapse of the Bronze Age. Author Sayce traces the history of the Hittite people, attempting to demonstrate that this was an empire of significance that is not afforded the credit it deserves. The book begins with an analysis of the references to the Hittite people in The Bible, which is an oft-cited source of information throughout Sayce's work. Divided into chapters, the book goes on to explore topics such as Hittite monuments, the Hittite Empire, Hittite cities, Hittite religion and art, and the trade and industry of the Hittities, amongst other topics. Several illustrations are included, primarily of Hittite artifacts. The book concludes with a detailed index.
