Niemand wird gerne alt. Jetzt altern ganze Völker in nie gekanntem Ausmaß.

Aging And Human Nature written by Mark Schweda and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-11 with Family & Relationships categories.

This book focuses on ageing as a topic of philosophical, theological, and historical anthropology. It provides a systematic inventory of fundamental theoretical questions and assumptions involved in the discussion of ageing and old age. What does it mean for human beings to grow old and become more vulnerable and dependent? How can we understand the manifestations of ageing and old age in the human body? How should we interpret the processes of change in the temporal course of a human life? What impact does old age have on the social dimensions of human existence? In order to tackle these questions, the volume brings together internationally distinguished scholars from the fields of philosophy, theology, cultural studies, social gerontology, and ageing studies. The collection of their original articles makes a twofold contribution to contemporary academic discourse. On one hand, it helps to clarify and deepen our understanding of ageing and old age by examining it from the fundamental point of view of philosophical, theological, and historical anthropology. At the same time, it also enhances and expands the discourses of philosophical, theological, and historical anthropology by systematically taking into account that human beings are essentially ageing creatures.

The Empty Couch written by Gabriele Junkers and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-20 with Psychology categories.

The Empty Couch is an introduction to the challenges and obstacles inherent in ageing as a psychoanalyst. It addresses the previously neglected issue of ill health, as well as the significance of ageing for psychoanalysts, exploring the analyst’s attitude towards getting older, impermanence and sense of time and space. Covering a wide range of topics Gabriele Junkers brings together expert contributors who discuss the problems of getting physically ill and how to conduct psychoanalysis as an ill therapist. Chapters also address the effects that ageing has on professional stamina, the grief inevitably caused by the losses endured in later life and inquires into the role that institutions (the relevant psychoanalytic institutes or societies) can play in this context. Setting out to encourage discussion on this vital topic, The Empty Couch brings this neglected area into sharp focus. It will be of interest to psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, counsellors, gerontologists and trainees in the psychoanalytic and psychotherapy worlds.

Mahatma Gandhi once chided a Christian friend, "All you Christians, missionaries and all, must begin to live more like Jesus Christ." And what Christian among us would disagree with him? After the holy wars and witch-hunts, after persecutions and political machinations, there is a broad sense today that the Church, however well-meaning, is on the wrong side of history. But do we really know our history? In this collaboration with historian Arnold Angenendt, best-selling German author Manfred Lütz dares to show us what contemporary historians actually say about Christianity's track record over the ages. This detailed overview begins with the ancient pagans, passing through Israel, the early Church martyrs, Constantine's Rome, the reign of Charlemagne, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Reformation, the Borgia popes, the Galileo affair, the conquistadores, the French Revolution, the slave trade, the Holocaust, the sex abuse crisis, and more. The Scandal of the Scandals separates myth from fact, giving us a candid portrait of Christendom with its scars and all. Prepare to be amazed at how little you really knew about Christianity.

The baby boomers have always been seen as a deeply symbolic generation - born amid a surge of post-war optimism and reaching adulthood in the 1960s. For many of them, challenging received wisdom is deeply embedded in their own self-image. But one problem in thinking about British baby boomers is that very little original research has addressed them directly. This report takes on the challenge of exploring the hopes and fears of a group of people who may help to reshape the meaning of 'old age'. By talking directly to them in depth, we have tested assumptions about how age, sex, marital status and ethnicity impact on the values of British baby boomers. We have also investigated their attitudes to dying, which if they have their way is likely to become the ultimate consumer service. Some firms are already waking up to the fact that, while youth culture might be 'cool', it is far cooler to profit from the well-heeled baby boomers. But as the baby boomers continue to march towards old age, the financial clout they wield will be less important than the new ways in which they will want to spend their money. The combination of wealth, health and longer life gives them a new phase of life. Baby boomers want to 'have their time again', by chasing personal fulfilment free from the pressures of overwork and childrearing. From middle-aged men and women on motorbikes to new beauty products and treatments and music retailing, the dominance of baby boomers can only grow. This project was produced in partnership with Centrica, the principal funder, and the Saga group.

Toward A Culture Of Freedom written by Thorwald Lorenzen and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-01 with Religion categories.

The Ten Commandments belong to the "classics" of Western culture. They are an authoritative part of the Hebrew and the Christian Scriptures. Since they come to us from an ancient past, it is both necessary and worthwhile to inquire what they may mean for us today. Thorwald Lorenzen contends it is important to hear God's invitation to an alternative lifestyle: "you shall not kill," "you shall not commit adultery," "you shall not covet." His thoughtful reflections on the commandments for today's tumultuous world begin with the God who "speaks" ten word to liberate God's people from oppression. Grounded in God's liberating "yes," the "ten words" are neither laws nor rules. They are elements for a culture of freedom in which people are invited to celebrate life.

Ethics written by Wolfgang Huber and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-21 with Art categories.

Acknowledging our pluralistic world, Huber analyzes twenty ethical issues that emerge during the course of our lives: the future of the family, genetic handicaps and genetic enhancement, combatting global hunger and poverty, environmental degradation, religious freedom, the right to health, the expanding influence of the media, the true purpose of business, what we owe our descendants, global conflict and war and peace, the role of science, extending life and accepting death, and so on. In each chapter he provides a concrete example showing the relevance of the fundamental ethical question, then explains how one can think through possible responses and reactions. As such, he emphasizes the connections between personal, professional, and institutional ethics and demonstrates how human relationships lie at the center of our ethical lives. His aim is to articulate a theology of what he calls "responsible freedom" that transcends individualistic self-realization and includes communal obligations.
