Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Komparatistik, Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Universität Siegen, Veranstaltung: Sartre: Theater und Film, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der französischer Philosoph, Schriftsteller und politische Journalist Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) avancierte mit seinen philosophischen Schriften, Essays, Dramen und Romanen zum führenden Vertreter des Existentialismus. Im Zentrum dieser Arbeit steht das erste Drehbuch Sartres mit dem aussagekräftigen Titel Das Spiel ist aus von 1943, das erstmalig 1947 beinahe kongruent mit Sartres Textvorlage von dem französischen Regisseur Jean Delannoy verfilmt wurde. Schon zu Beginn der Tonfilmära erkannte Sartre den Film als Instrument bewusstseinsverändernder Publikumsbeeinflussung und zugleich als autonome Kunstform, die sich, ständig neue Maßstäbe setzend, entgegen der Theaternormen aufgrund ihrer Eigengesetzlichkeit gegen jede Reduzierung sperrte. Sartres Hinwendung zum Drehbuchschreiben markierte den Wandel seiner subjektiven Sichtweise, in der das Theater nicht mehr länger seine Position als primäres Medium verteidigen konnte. Für ihn verfügte der Kinofilm als ‚vision guidée’ konträr zum Theater über weitaus größeres Potential zur Beeinflussung eines Massenpublikums. Das Spiel ist aus, das als ‚scénario littéraire’ bezeichnet werden kann, ist jedoch von einem Drehbuch im eigentlich technischen Sinne weit entfernt, es stellt vielmehr einen „zwischen mehreren Ausdrucksformen“ oszillierenden „Multi-Media-Text“ dar. In ihm vereinen sich Filmdrehbuch, Theaterstück, philosophisches Traktat und zeitgeschichtliches Dokument. Die Makrostruktur von Das Spiel ist aus, die Spuren der aristotelischen Dramagesetzlichkeit aufweist, zeigt jedoch, dass sich Sartre nicht imstande sah, sich vollständig vom Theater zu lösen. Wie in einem Großteil der philosophischen Texte Sartres, werden auch in Das Spiel ist aus die Aspekte der menschlichen Freiheit, die Möglichkeit der Wahl und die damit verbundene freie Entscheidung thematisiert. Durch das Todesurteil als Definition der Extremsituation präsentiert Sartre hier eine andere Perspektive des Todes, indem er zwei nebeneinander existente Seins-Ebenen illustriert und Diesseits und Jenseits in einen Kontext setzt. Nachdem ich zu Beginn die Handlungsentfaltung in Verbindung mit der Struktur von Sartres Drehbuch thematisieren werde, werde ich im Anschluss daran näher auf das Motiv des Spiels eingehen. Unter Punkt vier werde ich dann herausarbeiten, inwiefern Das Spiel ist aus deterministische und existentialistische Züge aufweist.

Ève and Pierre have never met each other in their respective lives. At the beginning of the book, Ève is very sick, and unknown to her, her husband André is poisoning her in order to marry her sister Lucette and keep the dowry. Pierre, on the other hand, is planning a revolution, but is killed by his friend Lucien. Both Pierre and Ève do not realize that they have been dead for a while. Pierre and Ève realize different truths about their own lives as they walk invisibly as ghosts amongst the living, with the power to interact only with other deceased souls. Pierre and Ève have difficulty adjusting to this powerless condition. They meet each other in line to register at a bureaucratic clearing house for the recently deceased where both of them slowly find out that there has been a mistake in the paperwork. They are surprised to learn that according to article 140, they were predestined to be soulmates. Successfully appealing their case, Pierre and Ève are brought back to life and given twenty-four hours to show their love to each other, or their second chance at living will be revoked. However, they are each distracted by unfinished business from their previous lives. Because Ève was poisoned by her husband, she wants to convince her sister that he is not a good man. Pierre wants to stop the revolution to overthrow the Regency that he had planned, because in death he discovered the Regent knew about it, and realizes that if carried out, it will result in the massacre of his friends and the end of the resistance. Unable to explain the unique circumstances in which they acquired their knowledge, they both have difficulty convincing their friends that they know what is the right thing to do. Neither is able to completely dissociate themselves from the things that were once important to them, and they realize that by not concentrating on their love they might be sacrificing their second chance at life.
