Liane leistet dem merkwürdigen Rat des Flattertieres Folge und findet ein ungewöhnliches Objekt, welches ihr aus ihrem roten Ferienhaus gestohlen werden wird. Aufklärung schafft ein ferner Freund, der auf Lianes heftiges Bitten rasch ins herbstliche Dänemark reist. Urgeschichte, Liebe, Betrug, Rauschmittel und die wirklich wunderbare Landgegend Dänemarks bilden den Kranz um eine durchaus verblüffende Auflösung dieser Novelle.

Franz Bleis Romanfragment Das trojanische Pferd beschreibt den Mikrokosmos des Fischerdorfes Cala Rajada auf Mallorca am Vorabend des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges. Cala Rajada war von 1930 bis zum Ausbruch des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges ein beliebtes Ziel deutscher Flüchtlinge vor dem Nationalsozialismus. Rund zwei Drittel des Romans sind verschollen. Das erhaltene Fragment wird hier erstmals vollständig publiziert. Zahlreiche Toponyme und Verweise auf reale Personen machen Das trojanische Pferd zu einem lebendigen Text. Blei diskutiert darin den aufkeimenden Faschismus in Europa ebenso wie den zunehmenden Kapitalismus. Die gesellschaftlichen und psychologischen Implikationen von Flucht und Exil verhandelt er diskursiv-polyphon. Der Text schließt dadurch an die großen Romane der 1920er und 1930er Jahre an und ist gerade in Zeiten, in denen Kriege, Diktaturen und ökologische Krisen erneut Flüchtlingswellen produzieren, eine aufschlussreiche Lektüre.

In this provocative account Tia DeNora reconceptualizes the notion of genius by placing the life and career of Ludwig van Beethoven in its social context. She explores the changing musical world of late eighteenth-century Vienna and follows the activities of the small circle of aristocratic patrons who paved the way for the composer's success. DeNora reconstructs the development of Beethoven's reputation as she recreates Vienna's robust musical scene through contemporary accounts, letters, magazines, and myths—a colorful picture of changing times. She explores the ways Beethoven was seen by his contemporaries and the image crafted by his supporters. Comparing Beethoven to contemporary rivals now largely forgotten, DeNora reveals a figure musically innovative and complex, as well as a keen self-promoter who adroitly managed his own celebrity.
