Die Seelsorge ist ein Bestandteil der Mystik, die wiederum seelsorgerische Aspekte enthält. Weil das Sterben in beiden Bereichen eine besondere Stellung hat, zieht die Autorin dieses als Beispiel heran. Im Gegensatz zur christlichen Religion hat der Islam keine vorgesehene Institution, die Seelsorge betreibt. Jeder Muslim hat die Verantwortung, sich um seine Mitmenschen zu kümmern. In den letzten Jahren wurde die Seelsorge als institutionelles Feld im Islam jedoch aufgenommen, angepasst und in der muslimischen Gesellschaft eingesetzt. Die islamische Seelsorge, die dadurch entstanden ist, nimmt den Islam als Grundlage. Der Islam bietet indirekt Seelsorge an, jedoch ist diese nicht als Wissenschaft herausgearbeitet, d.h. es fehlt momentan ein Konzept der islamischen Seelsorger, an denen sich die islamischen Seelsorger orientieren können. Vor allem die mystische Dimension im Islam bietet hierfür einen nährreichen Boden.
