Es bedeutet Macht, Chance und Gefahr zugleich. Devisen und Exportkapital sind in der heutigen Zeit eine weitaus größere Waffe und auch Gefahr, als Atombomben oder der Terrorismus. Mit Hilfe von Exportkapital oder auch Devisen kann ein Land in kurzer Zeit in die Knie gezwungen werden. In früheren Jahren geschah dies vornehmlich durch Kriege, um an Rohstoffe oder Ländereien zu gelangen. Ging der „weiße Mann“ zu jener Zeit in Länder des afrikanischen Kontinentes oder auf das Territorium von Lateinamerika um Kriege um Ländereien und natürlich auch Rohstoffe zu führen, nannte und nennt man dies Kolonialismus bzw. auch Imperialismus. Heutzutage ist dies wesentlich einfacher, wie der Begriff des „Economic Hit Man“ uns suggeriert. In der heutigen Zeit passiert dies durch den einfachen Export von Kapital. Diese nicht ganz ungewagte These soll im Laufe dieser Bachelorarbeit erörtert und analysiert werden. Den Begriff des „Economic Hit Man“ geht auf ein autobiografisches Werk von John Perkins zurück. Perkins, beschreibt in seinen Ausführungen, wie die Industriestaaten, im speziellen die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, Kredite an Entwicklungsländer vergeben. Eine besondere Rolle komme hierbei der Weltbank zu, die diese Kredite angeblich vergibt. Dies geschieht auf langfristiger Zeitebene. Besonders prekär sei, dass die vergebenen Kredite weder der armen Bevölkerung dienen, noch das Land insgesamt profitiere. Im Gegenteil: Die Bevölkerung müsse die Auslandsschulden abarbeiten und die einzigen Profiteure seien die amerikanischen Konzerne, welche die Aufträge zum Bau von Infrastruktur oder ähnlichem erhalten. Diese Kredite werden, laut Perkins, von den so genannten „Economic Hit Man“ (dt. Wirtschaftskiller) an diese Länder vergeben. Der „Economic Hit Man“ agiere dabei wie ein Vertreter, der dem Kunden seine Ware, in diesem Falle einen Kredit, verkauft. Es stellt sich natürlich die Frage: Was ist die Weltbank überhaupt? Wie arbeitet sie? Was sind ihre offiziellen Aufgaben? Was hat sie mit den besagten Entwicklungsländern zu tun? Und wie ist sie strukturiert? Grundlage könnte hierbei die klassisch marxistische Theorie des Imperialismus sein. Was hat sich also in den letzten hundert Jahren geändert? Wie sah der Kolonialismus damals aus, was macht ihn heute aus? Was ist von den Imperialismustheorien übrig geblieben oder nach wie vor aktuell?
