Das geistige Leben des Menschen erschöpft sich nicht in der Vielzahl seiner besonderen Erscheinungen. Vielmehr sind diese von philosophischer Reflexion als Variationen einer einzigen Humanität explizit zu machen. Philosophisches Denken ist daher das Projekt, die allgemeinen Formen des Geistes und damit besonders unseres Wissens und Könnens zu artikulieren, um selbstbewusste Orientierung in der Wirklichkeit zu ermöglichen. Anliegen dieses Bandes ist es, Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofers Beitrag zu diesem Projekt in seiner ganzen Breite sichtbar werden zu lassen. Dazu werden seine wichtigsten Aufsätze erstmals in ihrem systematischen Zusammenhang präsentiert. Die Aufsätze des ersten Kapitels (»Wissen und Wirklichkeit«) zeigen, wie der Zugang zur Wirklichkeit, in der wir Menschen handeln, grundlegend durch gemeinsames Wissen geformt ist. Das zweite Kapitel (»Sprache und Sprechhandlung«) befasst sich mit der sprachlichen Verfasstheit dieses Wissens und seiner Einbindung in eine kommunikative, institutionell organisierte Praxis. In ihrer gemeinsamen Tätigkeit begegnen sich die Menschen immer schon als Personen (Drittes Kapitel: »Psychologie der Person«), denen nicht nur eine näher zu bestimmende Würde zukommt, sondern von denen auch die verantwortliche Übernahme sozialer Rollen erwartet wird. Im vierten Kapitel (»Recht als Lebensform«) geht es um den institutionellen Rahmen für Würde, Recht und Pflicht voller Personen, während das fünfte (»Kunst und Religion«) den kulturellen Praktiken gewidmet ist, in denen die Menschen frei auf ihre gemeinsame Lebensform reflektieren.

Nils Witte explores Turkish migrants’ destigmatization strategies and investigates their legal and symbolic motives for naturalisation. Using mixed methods and unique data the author shows that Turkish migrants’ inclination to naturalise would be stronger if they were allowed to retain their former citizenship and if they were recognized as symbolic members of German society. Minority members enjoy expansive rights as permanent residents and many are entitled to hold German citizenship. However, they often experience symbolic exclusion making symbolic membership a rare motive for naturalisation.
