A fresh look at visualization from the author of Visualize This Whether it's statistical charts, geographic maps, or the snappy graphical statistics you see on your favorite news sites, the art of data graphics or visualization is fast becoming a movement of its own. In Data Points: Visualization That Means Something, author Nathan Yau presents an intriguing complement to his bestseller Visualize This, this time focusing on the graphics side of data analysis. Using examples from art, design, business, statistics, cartography, and online media, he explores both standard-and not so standard-concepts and ideas about illustrating data. Shares intriguing ideas from Nathan Yau, author of Visualize This and creator of flowingdata.com, with over 66,000 subscribers Focuses on visualization, data graphics that help viewers see trends and patterns they might not otherwise see in a table Includes examples from the author's own illustrations, as well as from professionals in statistics, art, design, business, computer science, cartography, and more Examines standard rules across all visualization applications, then explores when and where you can break those rules Create visualizations that register at all levels, with Data Points: Visualization That Means Something.

Biostatistics written by Geoffrey R. Norman and has been published by PMPH USA (BC Decker) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Medical categories.
This new edition of the book will be produced in two versions. The textbook will include a CD-Rom with two videotaped lectures by the authors. This book translates biostatistics in the health sciences literature with clarity and irreverence. Students and practitioners alike, applaud Biostatistics as the practical guide that exposes them to every statistical test they may encounter, with careful conceptual explanations and a minimum of algebra. What's New? The new Bare Essentials reflects recent advances in statistics, as well as time-honored methods. For example, "hierarchical linear modeling" which first appeared in psychology journals and only now is described in medical literature. Also new, is a chapter on testing for equivalence and non-inferiority. As well as a chapter with information to get started with the computer statistics program, SPSS. Free of calculations and jargon, Bare Essentials speaks so plainly that you won't need a technical dictionary. No math, all concepts. The objective is to enable you to determine if the research results are applicable to your own patients. Throughout the guide, you'll find highlights of areas in which researchers misuse or misinterpret statistical tests. We have labeled these "C.R.A.P. Detectors" (Convoluted Reasoning and Anti-intellectual Pomposity), which help you to identify faulty methodology and misuse of statistics.

person to prepare illustration copy at a pre-professional level-copy that is, however, often usable for routine purposes-and/or to communicate better with graphics spe cialists who will prepare the final illustrations. The skills necessary to take the final step of producing finished camera-ready illustrations are, unfortunately, based very much on actual hands-on experience and are thus beyond the ability of this or any other book to instill satisfactory competence in. Illustrations should also prove to be a highly useful reference work for professional illustrators. The wide variety of train ing and work experiences by which they have acquired their skills may not have provided full acquaintance with all of the exceptionally diverse kinds of information to be found here. There are, moreover, few disciplines whose practition ers cannot profit from an invigorating refresher course. After nearly seven years of work, then, I am pleased to put forward a book with many answers pertaining to the proper selection and preparation of informational illustrations. All such questions and their actual solutions, however, must re main up to you, the inquiring and attentive reader.

Formal Epistemology And Cartesian Skepticism

Formal Epistemology And Cartesian Skepticism written by Tomoji Shogenji and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-15 with Philosophy categories.
This book develops new techniques in formal epistemology and applies them to the challenge of Cartesian skepticism. It introduces two formats of epistemic evaluation that should be of interest to epistemologists and philosophers of science: the dual-component format, which evaluates a statement on the basis of its safety and informativeness, and the relative-divergence format, which evaluates a probabilistic model on the basis of its complexity and goodness of fit with data. Tomoji Shogenji shows that the former lends support to Cartesian skepticism, but the latter allows us to defeat Cartesian skepticism. Along the way, Shogenji addresses a number of related issues in epistemology and philosophy of science, including epistemic circularity, epistemic closure, and inductive skepticism.

New Developments In Unsupervised Outlier Detection written by Xiaochun Wang and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book enriches unsupervised outlier detection research by proposing several new distance-based and density-based outlier scores in a k-nearest neighbors’ setting. The respective chapters highlight the latest developments in k-nearest neighbor-based outlier detection research and cover such topics as our present understanding of unsupervised outlier detection in general; distance-based and density-based outlier detection in particular; and the applications of the latest findings to boundary point detection and novel object detection. The book also offers a new perspective on bridging the gap between k-nearest neighbor-based outlier detection and clustering-based outlier detection, laying the groundwork for future advances in unsupervised outlier detection research. The authors hope the algorithms and applications proposed here will serve as valuable resources for outlier detection researchers for years to come.

The Contribution Of Life Cycle Analyses And Circular Economy To The Sustainable Development Goals written by Luciana Brandli and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-01 with Science categories.
This book offers a comprehensive review of life cycle assessment (LCA), circular economy (CE), and sustainable development, exploring their achievements and progress across the world. The book also emphasizes the significant contribution of LCA and CE to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating how these frameworks can drive progress toward global sustainability targets. The main topics covered include the environmental and economic assessment of building materials, the life cycle of agricultural and bio-based products, the role of venture businesses in promoting CE, and the impact of CE on sustainable development. Additionally, the book discusses energy optimization in supply chains, the nexus between comparative advantage and the bio-based economy, and the use of CE frameworks in energy management for educational institutions. Key chapters highlight the valorization of waste materials for bioethanol production, the evolution of LCA studies on electric vehicle batteries, and the implementation of EDGE certification in Brazilian public schools. The book also explores the integration of LCA and CE in architectural education, the challenges and barriers to CE adoption in Nigeria, and the role of public policy in advancing CE in Brazil. These topics are critically important as they address the pressing need for sustainable practices in various industries. The integration of LCA and CE principles is crucial for minimizing environmental impacts, optimizing resource use, and fostering innovation in sustainable development. The book aims to solve the problem of how to effectively incorporate these principles into practice, providing methodological approaches, case studies, and policy perspectives that illustrate successful implementations and identify areas for improvement. The target audience for this book includes researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, and students interested in sustainability, environmental science, and circular economy practices. By offering in-depth analysis and practical insights, this book serves as a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand and apply LCA and CE principles to achieve sustainable development goals.
