Il rapporto, che contiene i dati relativi all'anno 2022, descrive l'evoluzione del fenomeno delle adozioni internazionali e traccia il profilo dei bambini stranieri adottati e delle coppie adottive in Italia. A livello nazionale i dati confermano, sia da un punto di vista quantitativo che socio-demografico, il profilo delle coppie adottive, pur con significative variazioni a livello regionale. L’effetto a lungo termine dei rallentamenti dovuti alla pandemia di COVID-19 potrebbe costituire la principale determinante di un ulteriore incremento del tempo necessario per la procedura di adozione (media di quasi 4 anni e mezzo nel 2022). Lo scenario internazionale che emerge dai dati dei paesi di origine dei minori conferma l’Europa al primo posto per numero di adozioni; l’America Latina si conferma il secondo continente di provenienza, il continente asiatico si colloca in terza posizione, seguito dal continente africano. Le caratteristiche dei minori restano a loro volta piuttosto stabili in termini di genere, di età media all’ingresso in Italia e di incidenza dei casi definiti special needs.

The convergence of dramatic declines in birth rates worldwide, aside from sub-Saharan Africa, the rise of untrammelled global movement of capital, people and information, and the rapid-fire dissemination of a host of new medical technologies has led to the "globalization of motherhood". This book brings together research from the Global North and the Global South to illuminate how contemporary motherhood is being changed by the processes of globalization. It locates declining fertility and desire for motherhood in the context of female employment, the development of the global market in reproductive technologies, the rising transnational labour market demand for feminized carework, and changing family forms. Focusing on the impacts on women who mother- and enable others to do so- across diverse contexts, the book examines the way in which conception, gestation mothering labor and care are being mobilized across national boundaries.
