Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Filmwissenschaft, Note: 2,7, Philipps-Universität Marburg (Institut für Kunstgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Die Filme von David Lynch, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Thema dieser Hausarbeit ist die Erzählstruktur in den Filmen von David Lynch. Dabei werde ich drei Filme herausgreifen, die besonders mit konventionellen Erzählstrukturen brechen: „Blue Velvet“ von 1986, „Lost Highway“ von 1997 und „Mulholland Drive“ von 2001. Diese Filme werden hinsichtlich ihrer Erzählstruktur verglichen werden und es soll eine Entwicklung dargestellt werden. „Blue Velvet“ wird den Ausgangspunkt bilden. Bei „Lost Highway“ und „Mulholland Drive“ werde ich dann den Schwerpunkt meiner Analyse darauf setzen, dass ich untersuche, ob narrative Strategien aus „Blue Velvet“ auch in den späteren beiden Filmen wieder auftauchen. Darüber hinaus wird es auch um die Unterschiede in der Erzählstruktur der drei Filme gehen. Zunächst werde ich die Erzählstruktur , unterteilt in narrative und nicht-narrative Elemente, von „Blue Velvet“ untersuchen. Dann werde ich, nach dem gleichen Prinzip aufgebaut, „Lost Highway“ und „Mulholland Drive“ mit „Blue Velvet“ vergleichen. Im Schlussteil soll kurz eine Entwicklung aufgezeigt werden. Während über „Blue Velvet“ schon viel geschrieben wurde, ist Lost Highway noch nicht ganz so ausgiebig behandelt worden. Über Mulholland Drive sind bisher nur Filmkritiken, nicht aber Analysen veröffentlicht worden. Diese Filmkritiken beschreiben „Mulholland Drive“ eher, als das sie eine Analyse bieten. George Seesslen beschreibt in „David Lynch und seine Filme“, Marburg 2000 eine Entwicklung in der narrativen Struktur von „Blue Velvet“ bis „Lost Highway“, in dem er die These aufstellt, dass Lynch sein System der Kontraste immer mehr verstärkt. Michael Atkinson analysiert „Blue Velvet“ in dem gleichnamigen Buch sehr ausführlich, nicht nur hinsichtlich der narrativen Struktur. Während Seesslen metapysische Interpretationsansätze bietet und darüber hinaus gerne aus der freudschen Perspektive argumentiert, werden bei Atkinson am Filmmaterial überprüfbare Thesen aufgestellt. Für „Lost Highway“ bietet Seeslen mit seiner Analyse der verschiedenen Ebenen des Films einen sehr interessanten Ansatz, wenn auch nicht alle von ihm angesprochenen Ebenen am Bildmaterial überprüft werden können. Die Literatur über „Mulholland Drive“ bietet kaum interessante Thesen. Vieles, was in den Filmkritiken geschrieben wurde, ist einleuchtend, aber auch sehr offentsichtlich.
