Client/server applications are of increasing importance in industry; they are a significant first step towards a global distributed processing model. A very recent response to this trend is the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) of the Open Software Foundation (OSF), the emerging new industry standard for distributed processing. The papers in this volume discuss the client/server approach based on DCE, illustrating and analyzing the functionality of important DCE components and applications. A number of contributions also focus on new models beyond traditional client/server processing and beyond DCE. The papers in this volume were presented at the International Workshop on the OSF Distributed Computing Environment, held in Karlsruhe, Germany, October 7-8, 1993. Following an introductory chapter, the contributions are grouped into parts on DCE analysis and comparison, application support, methods and tools, RPC extensions, and object-based systems.

Distributed autonomous robotic systems (DARS) are systems composed of multiple autonomous units such as modules, cells, processors, agents, and robots. Combination or cooperative operation of multiple autonomous units is expected to lead to desirable features such as flexibility, fault tolerance, and efficiency. The DARS is the leading established conference on distributed autonomous systems. All papers have the common goal to contribute solutions to the very demanding task of designing distributed systems to realize robust and intelligent robotic systems.

Distributed Systems written by Albert Fleischmann and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.
The purpose of this book is to make the reader famliar with software engineering for distributed systems. Software engineering is a valuable discipline in the develop ment of software. The reader has surely heard of software systems completed months or years later than scheduled with huge cost overruns, systems which on completion did not provide the performance promised, and systems so catastrophic that they had to be abandoned without ever doing any useful work. Software engi neering is the discipline of creating and maintaining software; when used in con junction with more general methods for effective management its use does reduce the incidence of horrors mentioned above. The book gives a good impression of software engineering particularly for dis tributed systems. It emphasises the relationship between software life cycles, meth ods, tools and project management, and how these constitute the framework of an open software engineering environment, especially in the development of distrib uted software systems. There is no closed software engineering environment which can encompass the full range of software missions, just as no single flight plan, airplane or pilot can perform all aviation missions. There are some common activities in software engi neering which must be addressed independent of the applied life cycle or methodol ogy. Different life cycles, methods, related tools and project management ap proaches should fit in such a software engineering framework.

Towards A Cscw Framework For Scientific Cooperation In Europe written by Hannes P. Lubich and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-26 with Business & Economics categories.
This monograph presents the still young, but already large and very active interdisciplinary realm of computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) in a systematic and well-balanced way. Besides technical progress also the cultural, social, legal, psychological and economic aspects of CSCW are discussed. The book makes accessible a wealth of information and culminates in the development and detailed discussion of a "Collaboratory" suitable to fulfil the needs of scientific cooperation in Europe. The book addresses CSCW research and development professionals as well as the general scientist interested in CSCW-based scientific cooperation. The bibliography with its more than 600 entries and the subject index are particularly comprehensive and helpful.

Testing of Communicating Systems presents the latest world-wide results in both theory and practice. This volume provides a forum in which the substantial volume of research on the testing of communicating systems, spanning from conformance testing through interoperability testing, to performance and QoS testing, is brought together. The following topics are discussed in detail: Types of testing; Phases of the testing process; Classes of systems to be tested; and Theory and practice of testing. This book contains the selected proceedings of the 11th International Workshop on the Testing of Communicating Systems, formerly the International Workshop on Protocol Test Systems, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), and held in Tomsk, Russia, in August/September 1998. Testing of Communicating Systems will be essential reading for engineers, IT managers and research personnel working in computer sciences and telecommunications.

Intelligent Agents For Telecommunications Applications written by Sahin Albayrak and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Computers categories.
Intelligent agent and distributed AI (DAI) approaches attach specific conditions to cooperative exchanges between intelligent systems, that go far beyond simple functional interoperability. Ideally, systems that pursue local or global goals, coordinate their actions, share knowledge, and resolve conflicts during their interactions within groups of similar or dissimilar agents can be viewed as cooperative coarse-grained systems. The infrastructure of telecommunications is a world in transition. There are a number of trends that contribute to this: convergence of traditional telephony and data network worlds, blurring of boundaries between public and private networks, complementary evolution of wireline, wireless, and cable network infrastructures, the emergence of integrated broadband multimedia networks and, of course, the information superhighway. Up to now, despite the effort that has gone into this area, the field of intelligent agents research has not yet led to many fielded systems. Telecommunications applications pose strong requirements to agents such as: reliability, real-time performance, openness, security management and other integrated management, and mobility. In order to fulfil their promise, intelligent agents need to be fully dependable and typically require an integrated set of capabilities. This is the challenge that exists for intelligent agents technology in this application domain.

His boots heavy with mud, Fornax Nehrengel marched zombie-like through the bleak and raw dawn. He wore the face of exhaustion, wincing as each step brought forth a fresh dose of pain from the untreated blister oozing puss from between his toes. His dark skin and hair were grimy, his legs and arms sore. From deep within his belly an unheated breakfast of gruel protested its confinement. Indifference deadened his spirit and his eyelids drooped with fatigue. The black scowl etched into his face said it all. Fear. Exhaustion. Pain.Through chapped and broken lips Fornax Nehrengel silently cursed his plight. He was not a brave man. Indeed, he found it curiously ironic that he should be fighting to defend a flag he paid scant allegiance to. Fornax resented being here and desertion was on his mind . . .Now, join Fornax Nehrengel on an intense, light-speed adventure that zooms from the moon to Mars and back again. With him is an undercover Secret Service agent, a crusty old economics professor, a nefarious brother, and a hot-blooded young woman. And chasing them? A power-hungry elite intent on stealing what could be mankind's most important invention since the internal combustion engine. Who said science fiction can't be sexy and fun at the same time?
