Rising Powers And Economic Crisis In The Euro Area written by Ferdi De Ville and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-15 with Political Science categories.

In this book, Ferdi De Ville and Mattias Vermeiren examine the linkages between the economic crisis in the euro area and the rise of Brazil, India and China (BICs) in the global monetary and trading system. Drawing on the insights of the comparative capitalism literature, the authors show that the latter development has been a key source of the escalation of trade imbalances in the euro area, which are widely seen as an important cause of the financial and economic crisis in the region. By pointing to the external source of these imbalances and the divergent institutional capacity of the euro area countries to deal with the intensified competition associated with the rise of the BICs, De Ville and Vermeiren go beyond the focus on the divergence in unit labor costs as the driving force of these imbalances. As such, this book provides a comprehensive policy critique of the EU’s export-led growth strategy based on declining unit labor costs.

Breaking Up The Euro written by D. Chorafas and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-31 with Business & Economics categories.

The drama of the common currency is a hot topic. The Euro was planned for the European Union's member states, bringing economically strong nations like Germany and Holland and weaker nations like Greece, Spain and Italy under one set of currency rules. A dozen years of its implementation has shown that the planning was incomplete at best. Add to this the weight of a deepening debt crisis among western nations, which continues unabated, and Europe has a very deep financial hole to climb out of. In this work, Dimitris N. Chorafas provides the reader with evidence to poor political judgment, then delves into preparation for the foreseeable Euro breakup and confronts the redenomination risk associated to it.

This book analyses the monetary and exchange rate policies in Eastern European countries not covered by the current EU enlargement process. Specifically, the book examines the major CIS countries: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine. (The new Eastern European EU members are also frequently referenced for comparison purposes.) Current and prospective monetary policy options are considered, and the applicability of the EU monetary integration experience for the CIS countries and the prospects of a monetary re-unification around the Russian Federation are assessed. This is the first book to formally deal with many of these questions.

(pgp).

LARGE PRINT EDITION! More at LargePrintLiberty.com Philipp Bagus, professor of economics at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, is a young scholar with a large influence, having forecast all the problems with the Euro and having persuaded many economists on the Continent that this currency is no better than any fiat currency. In some ways it is much worse because it has cartelized the management of European monetary regimes and created a terrible moral hazard. We often hear analysis of the workings of the Fed. Discussion of the European Central Bank is more rare. Bagus compares the two institutions to show a fundamental difference. Member states of the ECB can run deficits and expect them to be financed by the ECB. This is not true with the Fed. So Europe has a tragedy of the commons at work with its monetary policy that sets up very dangerous incentives for member states. For this reason, the system is unworkable. With this book, Professor Bagus brings his scholarship to English readers, explaining the background to the idea of European unity and its heritage of sound money. He explains that the Euro is not what the older classical liberals had hoped for but instead is a politically managed money that is destined for failure. He writes with a keen sense for economic analytics and empirical detail, offering one of the most accessible and yet rigorous accounts of the emergence of the Euro. He predicts its downfall due to political pressures, bad banking practices, and exploding public-sector liabilities. The analogies with the dollar are indeed close, but with welfare states at a more advanced stage, it will be a race to see which paper currency will crumble first. Professor Bagus brings theoretical power to investigating one of the most important topics in economics today. His arguments and evidence convinced even Jesus Huerta de Soto to withdraw support for the Euro. For this reason, de Soto has written the introduction to this important work.

Economics Of Monetary Union written by Paul de Grauwe and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

The seventh edition of 'Economics of Monetary Union' provides a concise analysis of the theories and policies relating to monetary union. De Grauwe analyses the costs and benefits associated with having one currency as well as the practical workings and current issues involved with the Euro. In the first part of the book the author considers the implications of joining a monetary union through discussion based on an economic cost-benefit analysis. The second part of the book looks at the reality of monetary unions by analysing Europe's experiences, such as how the European Central Bank was designed to conduct a single monetary policy. The seventh edition has been revised to include more discussion of monetary unions outside Europe and, to reflect this fast-moving area, updated coverage of new member states in transition and an updated discussion of the stability pact. Online Resource Centre An online resource centre, featuring supplements for lecturers including PowerPoint slides and an instructor manual, has been updated for this edition.
