El arte de la fuga uno de los libros imprescindibles de la literatura mexicana ( Pedro Angel Palou, La Jornada), confirma algo que publico y critica sabian desde hace tiempo: Sergio Pitol es uno de los narradores mayores de las letras mexicanas (Juan José Reyes, Crónica), nuno de los narradores hispanoamericanos fundamentales por su originalidad, humor y diversidad (Miguel Ángel Quemain, El Nacional). Los manuales de música clásicos definian la Fuga como una, composición a varias voces, escrita en contrapunto, cuyos elementos esenciales son la variaciońn y el canon, lo que hoy dia se podria interpretar libremente como la posibilidad de una forma mecida entre la aventura y el ordern el instinto y la matemática, la liturgia y el batacián. El personaje central de este libro -suponemos que el propio autor-. una criatrua tan indefensa como los más indefensos personajes dickensianos, pero a diferencia de ellos acorazado comon un guerrero cuyas armas fueran el estupor y la parodia, se fuga de una celda para encontrarse prisionero en otra que podria ser el paraiso, aunque él se encargará de convertir ese edén en un sitio irrisorio pero a la vez entrañable. El arte de la fuga se convierte en un galope acelerado que en su trayecto confunde regocijadamente todas las instrancias, remueve las fronteras, niega los géneros. Uno cree internarse en un ensayo para de pronto encontrarse en un relato, que se mutará en la crónica de una vida, el testimonio de un viajero, de un lector hedonista y refinado, de un niño deslumbrado por la immensa variedad del mundo. Si todo está en todo como se afirma a menudo enestas páginas, la fuga se vuelve también un irónico paseo por los vasos comunicantes que transforman lo unitario en lo diverso y las periferias en el centro. El elenco cultural es amplisimo, como también la georgrafia. No hay cronologias que valgan: todo está en todo, desde la infancia veracruzana del autor hasta el testimonio de su viaje a Chiapas, después de la insurrección zapatista, pasando por su larga y feliz estancia en Barcelona. Uno dice Pitol, me avenuro a creer, es los libros que ha leido, la pintura que ha visto, la música escuchada y olvidada. Uno es su niñez, su familia, unos cuantos amigos, algunos amores, bastantes fastidios. Uno es una suma mermada por infinitas restas.
