Contemporary Spanish Women S Narrative And The Publishing Industry written by Christine Henseler and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Literary Criticism categories.

As in other countries, the effects of commercialization in Spain are changing the direction of publishing. Arguing that women face a particularly complex situation because the inclusion of their work is still considered a novelty in a male-dominated field, Christine Henseler examines the strategies of Spanish women authors in the face of market forces. In a consumer economy that places books in supermarkets and mega-bookstores and in which novels are promoted and read more for entertainment than for their literary merit, women's books tend to be more highly regarded when they cater to feminist, erotic, or commercial niche markets. Henseler examines the visual creation of the seductive female body inside and outside the texts and the verbal application of this female figure on a narrative level in the works of authors including Paloma Díaz-Mas, Lourdes Ortiz, Cristina Peri Rossi, Esther Tusquets, Almudena Grandes, and Lucía Etxebarría. She looks at novels of seduction, award-winning novels, and novels sold on the basis of an author's prior reputation, as well as advertisements, literary prizes, and reviews. She also draws on interviews with authors to provide insider views of contemporary Spanish publishing. Contemporary Spanish Women's Narrative and the Publishing Industry reveals the ways women writers are reacting -- both textually and promotionally--to the changing demands of the publishing industry and the construction of a literary canon.

The Oxford Handbook Of Jorge Luis Borges written by Oxford Handbooks and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024 with Literary Collections categories.

"The Oxford Handbook of Jorge Luis Borges consists of thirty-five chapters, organized into four main categories: Borges's life, his representative work traced across the many decades of his writing, his work in collaboration, and his reception in literature and other disciplines. The volume highlights current debates among Borges scholars as a way to reevaluate how the physical forms and sociopolitical contexts of Borges's writings both shaped and determined specific readerships around the world. Alongside these novel approaches to Borges's fictions and nonfictions, this Handbook is the first of its kind to dedicate space to the reception of Borges's works in the fields of philosophy, the visual arts, film, political science, media theory, mathematics, and law. The collection also goes further to trace Borges's activity in the public sphere, including local and national politics and the functioning of cultural institutions. To date, no other collection devoted to his writings or life addresses these issues in depth, nor do they consider how his affiliations and interests change over the course of his long life. Incorporating these broader perspectives into this Handbook serves to bring out tensions, continuities, and discontinuities in Borges's work, allowing for a much more nuanced understanding of it. Jorge Luis Borges, literary studies, literary history, reception, Argentine literature, Latin American literature"--

Re Mapping World Literature written by Gesine Müller and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-05 with Literary Criticism categories.

How can we talk about World Literature if we do not actually examine the world as a whole? Research on World Literature commonly focuses on the dynamics of a western center and a southern periphery, ignoring the fact that numerous literary relationships exist beyond these established constellations of thinking and reading within the Global South. Re-Mapping World Literature suggests a different approach that aims to investigate new navigational tools that extend beyond the known poles and meridians of current literary maps. Using the example of Latin American literatures, this study provides innovative insights into the literary modeling of shared historical experiences, epistemological crosscurrents, and book market processes within the Global South which thus far have received scant attention. The contributions to this volume, from renowned scholars in the fields of World and Latin American literatures, assess travelling aesthetics and genres, processes of translation and circulation of literary works, as well as the complex epistemological entanglements and shared worldviews between Latin America, Africa and Asia. A timely book that embraces highly innovative perspectives, it will be a must-read for all scholars involved in the field of the global dimensions of literature.
