La posmodernidad, con su catálogo de términos propios como particularidad, coyunturalidad, fragmentación, deconstrucción, interpretación, diferencia, discontinuidad... es una especie de ’koiné’ o lenguaje común que articula diversas teorías técnicas, filosóficas y artísticas. Este nuevo idioma pretende llenarnos el corazón de desconfianza hacia todo lo que la modernidad presentó como definitivo, unívoco y total. Pero no es un salto en el vacío, es un volver a los temas de la modernidad quizá con otra mirada y otra sensibilidad. Es ésta una obra colectiva que consta de cinco conferencias que, desde diferentes puntos de vista, tratan el debate entre la modernidad y la posmodernidad pero indirectamente, cuentan con el debate pero no se detienen en él porque su meta es otra: para Reyes Mata el objetivo es pensar de nuevo la política, partiendo del sufrimiento del hombre concreto que exige responsabilidad a quien no ha causado sus dolores; para Julián Carvajal es traernos a la consideración la ’Paz perpetua’ de Kant con su ideal cosmopolita; para Carlos Thiebaut consiste en una concepción de la democracia que permita una visión diferencialista de la igualdad y un trato igualitario de las diferencias; para Antonio Hernández se trata de una nueva forma de pensar que conjugue el rigor científico con la subjetividad, la complejidad con la diferencia; y para José Luis Mora el fin es recordarnos que, frente a la racionalidad matemática de la modernidad, la literatura española ha mantenido una tradición muy posmoderna de pluralidad, cotidianeidad y sensualidad.

Al hablar de "vanguardias artisticas", o "vanguardias historicas", no es extrano el empleo del adjetivo calificativo "anarquico" que, a veces ambiguamente, alude a cierta atmosfera rupturista en el primer tercio del siglo XX. En el caso espanol esta situacion remite a la coexistencia, durante la Segunda Republica (1931–1939), de ismos esteticos muy politizados y un importante movimiento anarquista. Donde convergen o se distancian el vanguardismo de galerias, pabellones o revistas y las acciones revolucionarias de la Confederacion Nacional del Trabajo (CNT)? Hasta que punto las practicas del obrerismo libertario se corresponden con el teatro experimental de Garcia Lorca, el cine de Luis Bunuel, o la escultura de Alberto Sanchez? Y con la literatura feminista de Lucia Sanchez Saornil, el grabado proletario de Helios Gomez, o la pintura anticolonial de Wifredo Lam? Sin miedo a las ruinas propone que la respuesta a estas cuestiones se encuentra en el comun cuestionamiento, por parte de vanguardias y anarquistas, no ya del sistema de representacion dominante, sino del concepto mismo de "representacion" y su pretendida transparencia. Este ensayo-collage de "textos", generos y autores de vanguardia invitara al lector a repensar la relacion entre arte y politica en la Espana republicana. Y alla donde la representacion se encuentre en crisis.

In The Return of the Real Hal Foster discusses the development of art and theory since 1960, and reorders the relation between prewar and postwar avant-gardes. Opposed to the assumption that contemporary art is somehow belated, he argues that the avant-garde returns to us from the future, repositioned by innovative practice in the present. And he poses this retroactive model of art and theory against the reactionary undoing of progressive culture that is pervasive today. After the models of art-as-text in the 1970s and art-as-simulacrum in the 1980s, Foster suggests that we are now witness to a return to the real—to art and theory grounded in the materiality of actual bodies and social sites. If The Return of the Real begins with a new narrative of the historical avant-gard, it concludes with an original reading of this contemporary situation—and what it portends for future practices of art and theory, culture and politics.

José Manuel Velázquez (Sevilla, 1973) y Fernando Ortiz (Sevilla, 1947-2014), ambos poetas de gran calidad, aunque de distintas edades y notoriedad –y el segundo también excelente ensayista y articulista–, son los autores del amistoso intercambio epistolar en verso, que incluye cuarenta y siete poemas enviados por correo electrónico entre noviembre de 2012 y noviembre de 2013, excepto el último de José Manuel Velázquez, escrito al recibir la reciente y dolorosa noticia de la muerte de Fernando Ortiz. Las perfectas formas métricas heredadas de la tradición, que a menudo se mezclan con la ironía, vehiculan diálogos que dejan entrever el cariño recíproco y tratan de la poesía, de la nostalgia por la patria lejana, de la familia, de la situación española, del tiempo que se va, de los pesares de cada uno, de la relación no siempre pacífica entre musulmanes y cristianos, tanto en la historia de España como en el presente. En palabras de José Manuel: “Se va a desarrollar a lo largo de todo el Epistolario un diálogo entre un antiguo al que no le falta modernidad, Fernando Ortiz, y un moderno que tiene mucho de antiguo, José Manuel Velázquez, sevillanos ambos, y separados por esos veinte y tantos años que algunos han decidido adjudicar al espacio que media entre dos generaciones, dos poetas que van más allá de sus diferencias”. Fernando, a su vez, describe así la experiencia del carteo poético: “Después de un intercambio en el que versificamos sobre lo que de verdad importa al hombre, el tiempo, terminamos despidiéndonos con unas amistosas bromas. Ha sido para mí un enriquecedor divertimiento este epistolario en verso, que me obligaba a escribir un poema diario, y a veces más. A José Manuel Velázquez se lo debo y a él se lo agradezco”. Las dos voces presentan sus diferentes puntos de vista en unos versos deslumbrantes, compartiendo la amistad y el amor, más allá de la afición, por la poesía.
