Coen Stork (1928) was bij het Rivoniaproces in 1964 tegen Nelson Mandela, volgde de vuile oorlog in Argentinië, botste hard met zijn reactionaire baas, de Nederlandse ambassadeur in Madrid toen Franco daar nog de scepter zwaaide, en maakte de val van Ceausescu in Roemenië mee. Zijn zoons speelden met de broertjes van Che Guevara. Stork leidde het leven van een diplomaat in de brandhaarden van de wereld, maar werd geboren in de sprookjesachtige wereld van de grootindustriëlen van de Stork-fabrieken. Met zijn beroepsethiek én zijn onorthodoxe levenswandel was hij een buitenbeentje in politiek en diplomatie. Het dossier dat de Roemeense veiligheidsdienst over hem aanlegde is dikker dan het telefoonboek van New York en zijn ambassade in Boekarest was een vrijhaven voor Roemeense dissidenten. Een persoonlijke bedankbrief van Nelson Mandela koestert hij op gepaste wijze. Met Coen Stork als hoofdpersoon brengt Peter Henk Steenhuis het grootste gedeelte van de twintigste eeuw tot leven.

The Synod of Dordt 1618/1619 was one of the most important church councils in the history of the Reformed tradition. International delegates from all over Europe served as important participants and played a significant role in the evaluation of Remonstrant doctrine and in the formation of the Canons of Dordt. The Synod made important pronouncements on other issues such as Sunday observance, catechism instruction and theological education. Given the continuing worldwide historical significance of the Synod's Canons and church order, the absence of a critical scholarly edition of the majority of documents of the Synod is remarkable. The Johannes a Lasco Bibliothek in Emden, a leading research center for the history and theology of Reformed Protestantism, has taken the initiative to edit the Acts and documents of the Synod of Dordt. The edition is organized as a RefoRC project, with the participation of other institutions and scholars in Europe and North-America. Vol. II/1 edits the Convening of the Synod.

Curzio Malaparte vertrekt eind juni 1947 naar Parijs omdat de grond in Italië hem te heet onder de voeten wordt. Weliswaar is hij zonder kleerscheuren door de naoorlogse zuiveringen gekomen, maar na een reeks arrestaties en aanvallen van rechts en links voelt hij zich bedreigd door het `fascisme van het antifascisme. In Parijs stort Malaparte zich vol overgave in het culturele milieu rond beroemdheden als Camus, Gide, Sartre en Picasso. Zijn grote liefde voor Frankrijk en met name Parijs blijkt tot zijn teleurstelling niet geheel wederzijds. De anti-Italiaanse stemming is op haar hoogtepunt en door de Parijse intelligentsia wordt hij met een scheef oog aangekeken. Zich zeer bewust van zijn vreemdelingenstatus en geholpen door de geografische afstand blikt Malaparte terug op zijn leven in Italië en zijn complexe rol in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Malapartes dagboek laat zich lezen als een gelaagd zelfportret van een schrijver die ten prooi valt aan een gevoel van vervreemding. Ook geeft het een fascinerend tijdsbeeld van een grote Europese stad vlak na de oorlog, waarin schrijvers en kunstenaars nieuw artistiek en ideologisch houvast proberen te vinden.
