In De Tawl gaat historicus Philip Dröge al fietsend over Amerikaanse wegen op zoek naar wat er nu nog over is van dat Nederlandstalige verleden. Het resultaat is een opmerkelijk verhaal over de Nederlandse oorsprong van woorden als ‘OK’ en ‘dope’ en over gekke rechters, slavernij, komieken en oplichters.
