Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be dead – to exist in a state of nothingness, to be no more, to assume the status of an old magnetic cassette tape; wiped clean of all but a residual hiss?London, 2014Jake Turner, a jaded cop; is on his way to give evidence about an underworld murder, when he gets wiped out by a Brixton-bound tube train. An indeterminate amount of time later, he comes to in a brightly lit “warehouse.”His strange new surroundings are inhabited by a diverse set of “traveling” companions: shuffling and seemingly aimless husks of their former selves.Trying to make some sense of his predicament, he begins to make forays into the cavernous interior of his new home. Whilst exploring the surreal environment he has been deposited in, Jake meets a host of characters, none of whom he initially recognizes. As the cruel realisation of his fate starts to percolate in heart-rending drops from subconscious to reality, he begins to link those around him with his past. The old guy captivating his audience with bawdy jokes - the young junkie turned hooker – could any of these people really have any link whatsoever to the law abiding cop? The answers, when they come, rush on relentlessly; shoving Jake along memory lane like the train that scooped him up, dragged him along the cold steel rails and deposited him there; in that place. Dead Or Alive In Purgatory is an irreverent peek at one man's unbiblical understanding of Purgatory. Along with the story's heady mix of heart rending tragedy and atonement, a pale and skinny moon of humour illuminates the darkest passages; shining weakly on an otherwise inky black ocean of despair.

This book is perhaps one of the most misunderstood works of Catholic theology of our time. Critics contend that von Balthasar espouses universalism, the idea that all men will certainly be saved. Yet, as von Balthasar insists, damnation is a real possibility for anyone. Indeed, he explores the nature of damnation with sobering clarity. At the same time, he contends that a deep understanding of God’s merciful love and human freedom, and a careful reading of the Catholic tradition, point to the possibility—not the certainty—that, in the end, all men will accept the salvation Christ won for all. For this all-embracing salvation, von Balthasar says, we may dare hope, we must pray and with God’s help we must work. The Catholic Church’s teaching on hell has been generally neglected by theologians, with the notable exception of von Balthasar. He grounds his reflections clearly in Sacred Scripture and Catholic teaching. While the Church asserts that certain individuals are in heaven (the saints), she never declares a specific individual to be in hell. In fact, the Church hopes that in their final moments of life, even the greatest sinners would have repented of their terrible sins, and be saved. Sacred Scripture states, “God ... desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all” (1 Tim 2:4–5).

After a week of hearing ghostly noises, a man is visited in his home by the spirit of his mother, dead for three decades. She reproaches him for his dissolute life and begs him to have Masses said in her name. Then she lays her hand on his sleeve, leaving an indelible burn mark, and departs... A Lutheran minister, no believer in Purgatory, is the puzzled recipient of repeated visitations from "demons" who come to him seeking prayer, consolation, and refuge in his little German church. But pity for the poor spirits overcomes the man's skepticism, and he marvels at what kind of departed souls could belong to Christ and yet suffer still... Hungry Souls recounts these stories and many others trustworthy, Church-verified accounts of earthly visitations from the dead in Purgatory. Accompanying these accounts are images from the "Museum of Purgatory" in Rome, which contains relics of encounters with the Holy Souls, including numerous evidences of hand prints burned into clothing and books; burn marks that cannot be explained by natural means or duplicated by artificial ones. The Promise Of The Future written by Cornelis P. Venema and has been published by Banner of Truth this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Eschatology categories.

Though we can never, in our time-bound state, know the future in detail, God in his mercy has not left us in complete ignorance of what is to come. His revelation in Holy Scripture has cast a flood of light on what would otherwise remain an impenetrable mystery. Even among those who accept the Bible's authority, however, there has never been complete agreement on what Scripture teaches in this area. This major new examination of biblical teaching on the future of the individual, of the church and of the universe as a whole will be useful both to theological students and to informed non-specialists. Ranging over the whole field, it interacts extensively with recent literature on disputed issues, such as the nature of the intermediate state, the millennium of Revelation 20 and the doctrine of eternal punishment, always seeking to answer the fundamental question: 'What do the Scriptures teach?' The Christ-centered nature of biblical teaching on the future is emphasized, as is the importance of the church's historic confessions for an understanding of eschatology. The chief note sounded is one of hope: 'God's people eagerly await Christ's return because it promises the completion of God's work of redemption. The future is bright because it is full of promise, the promise of God's Word.' - Jacket flap.

Titled after a small gallery of the same name found in Rome, the poems are devoted to meditations on religious relics and works of art. They explore the narrative power these objects carry—the way we imbue totemic figures with both meaning and story, and the potential they have to define the world.
