Dear Myra Dear Max written by Maxine Borowsky Junge and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-15 with Adaptability (Psychology) in old age categories.

Dear Myra, Dear Max is a book about growing older by a 93 year-old woman (Myra) and an 80 year-old woman (Max). It is an epistolary book-an email conversation of close to four years in which two women of different generations and different living situations-Myra lives in an Independent Living community and Max lives alone with her dog Betsy-share their thoughts about their lives and ponder the big questions of meaning that plague everyone who is alive and thinks. Despite health issues, we kept writing. Originally, we were motivated because we couldn't find anything to read about people 75 plus years old that seemed pertinent to us and was anything but myths, assumptions and opinions. Exploring, we learned how little literature there was about this age group at all and how it was pretty much limited to the "it's not as bad as all that, but old age is not for sissies" department with a tad of inspirational stuff thrown in. One large national study included a few "older" people, but told stories about at retirement now, how so many were able to create new careers of what they "really wanted to do" all along. There is no question people are living longer and as Baby Boomers encounter retirement age, more attention is being paid. Perhaps ageism will eventually come more to the forefront and the aging become visible and valued as they should be. We hope so. But there are those of us even older than Baby Boomers who are real social pioneers trekking along a path with few landmarks or touchstones to guide the way. In this book you will find out a lot about us. Frankly, we hope some of it will be helpful and that at least you know you are not alone. A few days ago, a friend responded to an email I'd sent by writing "Congratulations on refusing to retire!" I sent her back an email that said "This is what retirement looks like these days." We hope you enjoy our book. Love, Myra and Max

Musings Of A Baby Boomer written by Kay Hoflander and has been published by BrownBooks.ORM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-26 with Family & Relationships categories.

An honest, humorous, and refreshing look back on the experiences of a unique generation and the challenges of growing older in the digital age. Musings of a Baby Boomer: Life Before X, Y, and Z is a collection of selected shorts from Hoflander’s weekly newspaper column “Full Circle,” featuring sometimes funny and sometimes philosophical stories with a continuous theme: the reluctant, but generally happy, aging of the Baby Boomer generation. In this collection, Hoflander tells stories about everything from yard flamingos and college move-in day to battling internet bots. She reflects on the simpler times of her childhood and addresses present-day changes to which, as a baby boomer, she adapts: memory loss, evolving technology, and politics. Through it all, she uses humor and wit to remind readers not to take life too seriously—and to focus on the things that really matter. “This book entails family, friends, and wisdom from the perspective of the baby boomer generation! A great read for all! Delightful.” —Teresa Parson, First Lady of Missouri “America needs healing, and instead of destroying our history, perhaps musings from those who have been part of history can provide a way forward. That is what Kay Hoflander's book offers.” —Lieutenant Colonel Allen B. West (US Army, Retired), Member, 112th U.S. Congress, Former Chairman, Republican Party of Texas “Hoflander has the magical skills to hit upon daily life with humor and understanding . . . For younger readers, this book just may help you better understand your parents or grandparents. It is a book for all generations to enjoy.” —Suzanne Skelly, University of Missouri Graduate Educator, Realtor, Genealogist and life-long Bibliophile

The Second Journey written by Timothy R Athey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-04 with Self-Help categories.

In Dr. Tim Athey's work over the past decade, it has become clear to him that the values of the Baby Boomer generation pose unique challenges as they transition through midlife. These challenges are reflected in a growing need for meaning, spirituality, freedom, and change in the personal and professional lives of this generation of people. The turn of the millennium, and the tragedy of September 11, 2001, have caused all Americans to reflect on the things we want our lives to stand for. Because of who we are as a generation, and the values we hold dear, the drive for meaning and direction will reemerge as a compelling force for Baby Boomers facing the challenges of middle age. The Second Journey explores the Baby Boomer generation and how their values affect the personal adjustment, career transitions, and spirituality of this unique group of people. It explores the dilemmas that Boomers face as a generation and identifies the specific steps to resolve these personal dilemmas and establish a new vision for the future. This reawakening to the values of their past as they face the challenges of the future is the Second Journey that this generation now begins.

Baby Boomers And Popular Culture written by Brian Cogan and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-25 with Social Science categories.

The Boomers are the generation that changed everything, from economics to politics to popular culture. This book examines the myriad ways and long-reaching consequences of the now fully "grown up" Baby Boomer generation on America. Once upon a time, the members of the Baby Boomer generation were young, idealistic, and hungry to change the world. And they did create sweeping, irreversible changes throughout American society—but probably not in the ways their younger selves imagined they would. Now that the Boomers are in their late-adult or retirement years, their tremendous legacy can clearly be perceived. In retrospect, the paths the members of this generation took to come to power—and how they came to terms with that power—are also apparent. This single-volume work supplies a broad yet detailed critical guide to the Boomer Generation, containing essays on key people, moments, and phenomena not only during the Boomers' 1960s heyday but also their extensive influences on American culture decades afterward. The contributors address key topics such as the rise of feminism; Civil Rights; the Vietnam War and the anti-war movement; the Beatles, the Grateful Dead, and rock 'n roll; gay rights; idealism, narcissism, and materialism; the influence of television on America, and vice versa; and the transition of Boomers from being "Yippies" to "Yuppies." This work is an ideal text for students in undergraduate or graduate courses in television studies, media studies, cultural studies, and American studies; and is highly appropriate as a supplemental text in literature, history, and philosophy surveys.

Renewing The Family A History Of The Baby Boomers written by Catherine Bonvalet and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-10 with Social Science categories.

This book traces the history of the baby-boomers, beginning with an explanation of the cause of the post-war baby boom and ending with the contemporary concerns of ageing boomers. It shows how the baby-boomers challenged traditional family attitudes and adopted new lifestyles in the 1960s and 1970s. Drawing on 90 interviews conducted with baby boomers living in London and Paris, the book demonstrates how their aspirations for leisure and consumption converged with family responsibilities and obligations. It shows how the baby boomers emerged from an authoritative upbringing to challenge some of the traditional assumptions of the family, such as marriage and cohabitation. The rise of feminism led by the baby-boomers is examined, together with its impact on family forms and structures. The book shows how women’s trajectories veered between the two extremes of family and employment, swerving between the models of stay-at-home mother and working woman. It demonstrates how new family configurations such as solo parenting, and recomposed families were adopted by the baby boomers. Today, as they enter into retirement, the baby-boomers remain closely involved in the lives of their children and parents, although relationships with elderly parents are maintained primarily through a sense of duty and obligation. The book concludes that the baby boomers have both been influenced by and actors to the changes and transformations that have occurred to family life. They reconciled and continue to reconcile, individualism with family obligations. As grandparents often with an ageing parent still alive, the baby boomers wish to keep the independence that has been the hallmark of their generation whilst not abandoning family life.

Ok Boomer Let S Talk written by Jill Filipovic and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-11 with Political Science categories.

“Particularly relevant in an election year...This book is full of data—on the economy, technology, and more—that will help millennials articulate their generational rage and help boomers understand where they’re coming from.” —The Washington Post “Jill Filipovic cuts through the noise with characteristic clarity and nuance. Behind the meme is a thoughtfully reported book that greatly contributes to our understanding of generational change.” —Irin Carmon, coauthor of the New York Times bestseller Notorious RBG Baby Boomers are the most prosperous generation in American history, but their kids are screwed. In this eye-opening book, journalist Jill Filipovic breaks down the massive problems facing Millennials including climate, money, housing, and healthcare. In Ok Boomer, Let’s Talk, journalist (and Millenial) Jill Filipovic tells the definitive story of her generation. Talking to gig workers, economists, policy makers, and dozens of struggling Millennials drowning in debt on a planet quite literally in flames, Filipovic paints a shocking and nuanced portrait of a generation being left behind: -Millennials are the most educated generation in American history—and also the most broke. -Millennials hold just 3 percent of American wealth. When they were the same age, Boomers held 21 percent. -The average older Millennial has $15,000 in student loan debt. The average Boomer at the same age? Just $2,300 in today’s dollars. -Millennials are paying almost 40 percent more for their first homes than Boomers did. -American families spend twice as much on healthcare now than they did when Boomers were young parents. Filipovic shows that Millennials are not the avocado-toast-eating snowflakes of Boomer outrage fantasies. But they are the first American generation that will do worse than their parents. “OK, Boomer” isn’t just a sarcastic dismissal—it’s a recognition that Millennials are in crisis, and that Boomer voters, bankers, and policy makers are responsible. Filipovic goes beyond the meme, upending dated assumptions with revelatory data and revealing portraits of young people delaying adulthood to pay down debt, obsessed with “wellness” because they can’t afford real healthcare, and struggling to #hustle in the precarious gig economy. Ok Boomer, Let’s Talk is at once an explainer and an extended olive branch that will finally allow these two generations to truly understand each other.

Baby Boomers experienced a world growing up that is very different from the one we live in today. Some say it's better, and some say it's worse. We can all agree it's very different. These are humor columns about being a Baby Boomer. Baby Boomers came of age in a time when there were water fountains instead of hydration stations. Our childhood was filled with playing outside. When we were forced to stay inside it was tantamount to being punished. We spoke to people in person and understood body language. There was no cyber world. We all had to learn how to deal with reality. There were no computer games. There were pick-up sports based on who had a baseball, football, basketball or other sports equipment. Playing a game depended on if the sports equipment owners were willing to share. Card games were played with real cards. We camped out without adults, went on bike hikes, swam in creeks and more. Now we're middle age or older. Our bodies are changing, and the world around us continues to make less and less sense. This book is about the many common things experienced by Baby Boomers. Just like the song from the group "The Who", I'm "Talkin' 'bout my generation.
