This is a book about how management and control decisions are made by persons who collaborate and possibly use the support of an information system. The decision is the result of human conscious activities aiming at choosing a course of action for attaining a certain objective (or a set of objectives). The act of collaboration implies that several entities who work together and share responsibilities to jointly plan, implement and evaluate a program of activities to achieve the common goals. The book is intended to present a balanced view of the domain to include both well-established concepts and a selection of new results in the domains of methods and key technologies. It is meant to answer several questions, such as: a) “How are evolving the business models towards the ever more collaborative schemes?”; b) “What is the role of the decision-maker in the new context?” c) “What are the basic attributes and trends in the domain of decision-supporting information systems?”; d) “Which are the basic methods to aggregate the individual preferences?” e)“What is the impact of modern information and communication technologies on the design and usage of decision support systems for groups of people?”.

Decision making arises when we wish to select the best possible course of action from a set of alternatives. With advancements of the digital technologies, it is easy, and almost instantaneous, to gather a large volume of information and/or data pertaining to a problem that we want to solve. For instance, the world-wi- web is perhaps the primary source of information and/or data that we often turn to when we face a decision making problem. However, the information and/or data that we obtain from the real world often are complex, and comprise various kinds of noise. Besides, real-world information and/or data often are incomplete and ambiguous, owing to uncertainties of the environments. All these make decision making a challenging task. To cope with the challenges of decision making, - searchers have designed and developed a variety of decision support systems to provide assistance in human decision making processes. The main aim of this book is to provide a small collection of techniques stemmed from artificial intelligence, as well as other complementary methodo- gies, that are useful for the design and development of intelligent decision support systems. Application examples of how these intelligent decision support systems can be utilized to help tackle a variety of real-world problems in different - mains, e. g. business, management, manufacturing, transportation and food ind- tries, and biomedicine, are also presented. A total of twenty chapters, which can be broadly divided into two parts, i. e.

Rapid globalization coupled with the growth of the Internet and Information Technology (IT) has led toa complete transformation in the way businesses or organizations function today. This has not only affectedthe management culture but has also led to an increase in competition in terms of markets and resources.Businesses have become more customer-driven and e-business is gaining popularity. Traditional means ofcommunication/correspondence have given way to online dealings, e-mails and chats. With such a radicalshift in the approach to doing business, came the need for specialized systems to handle the variousdepartments and functions in an organization.Management Information System or MIS is an organized and well-structured system used by organizationsfor the collection, storage, processing and dissemination of data in the form of information that facilitatesthe smooth functioning of the organization. Management information systems involve three primaryresources: people, technology and information or decision-making.It is in this context, a textbook on introduction to the subject of MIS is presented to the students ofManagement program. The book contains the syllabus from basics of the subjects going into the intricaciesof the subjects. All the concepts have been explained with relevant examples and diagrams to make itinteresting for the readers. An attempt is made here by the experts to assist the students by way of providing case based studymaterial as per the curriculum with non-commercial considerations. The Fast-Paced, Fun-to-Read Guide to Making Better Decisions! How much information do you really need to make a business decision? Why don't past winners keep on winning? When should you fold your hand, and when should you press on? In The Art of Decisions, Chris Blake reveals the amazing hidden realities beneath human decision making-and helps you optimize every decision you make. Blake begins by exploding the #1 myth of decision making: the idea that if you have enough knowledge, you can engineer away all risk and make a rational, objective decision that's nearly guaranteed to succeed. Next, Blake turns to the decision-making process itself, teaching better ways to make decisions in a world full of uncertainty, randomness, and tough luck. Drawing on the secrets of psychology, poker, and probability, you'll learn how to identify and overcome biases and errors that constantly creep into the decision-making process. You'll discover the power and pitfalls of intuition in familiar and unfamiliar environments and learn "rules of thumb" drawn from fields as diverse as gambling and computer programming. You're human. You'll never be perfect. But if you want to be right more often, when it matters most, this book will get you there. * Decision-making lessons from Texas Hold'em What to do about the risks and randomness you can't eliminate * Follow your instinct or follow the rules? When to use your intuition--and when to doubt it * Know when it's time to decide How to know when you know enough * Make better decisions in unfamiliar environments Hire a guide or make a map?

Algorithms For Decision Making written by Mykel J. Kochenderfer and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-16 with Computers categories.

A broad introduction to algorithms for decision making under uncertainty, introducing the underlying mathematical problem formulations and the algorithms for solving them. Automated decision-making systems or decision-support systems—used in applications that range from aircraft collision avoidance to breast cancer screening—must be designed to account for various sources of uncertainty while carefully balancing multiple objectives. This textbook provides a broad introduction to algorithms for decision making under uncertainty, covering the underlying mathematical problem formulations and the algorithms for solving them. The book first addresses the problem of reasoning about uncertainty and objectives in simple decisions at a single point in time, and then turns to sequential decision problems in stochastic environments where the outcomes of our actions are uncertain. It goes on to address model uncertainty, when we do not start with a known model and must learn how to act through interaction with the environment; state uncertainty, in which we do not know the current state of the environment due to imperfect perceptual information; and decision contexts involving multiple agents. The book focuses primarily on planning and reinforcement learning, although some of the techniques presented draw on elements of supervised learning and optimization. Algorithms are implemented in the Julia programming language. Figures, examples, and exercises convey the intuition behind the various approaches presented.

There is a tide of competitiveness rising across the sea of business. The issues being faced by the business commanders of today are rapidly becoming more complex. Veritable waves of information are crashing down on organizational decision makers. While the environment is becoming more complex, it is getting tougher to discern the relevant information from among the flood of available data. The demand for accurate, rapid decision making is impelling today's decision makers to wonder about the existence of some sort of job-preserving assistance. These decision makers are often awash in political controversy as well as technical, economic, social, and legal considerations. Relief from this sea of troubles may come from a behaviorally-responsive decision support system (DSS) in the form of computer assistance that considers the decision maker's cognitive and emotional needs. This book describes a DSS that will meet the needs of modern organization decision makers.

Similar to operations management, project management employs an array of quantitative techniques while performing planning, scheduling, forecasting, and monitoring tasks. The main purpose of the quantitative approach is to make an optimal decision by using mathematical and statistical models in a situation when the probability of all outcomes is uncertain.Quantitative approach to decision-making produces the best results when the problem is clearly defined, several alternatives exist, and decision outcomes are easily measurable. However, in the case that many external factors are outside of the decision-maker's control and their probability is unknown, the quantitative methods can become unreliable. The purpose of this study Material is to present an introduction to the subjects of MBA Semester-I.
