Con il ritorno della volontà di potenza quale motore della storia, economia e strategia entrano in un rapporto dialettico, spesso conflittuale. Il risultato è un mondo entropico, ma non privo di logica. A volte la vittoria pesa come e più della sconfitta. Questo, a posteriori, si può dire del trionfo statunitense sull’Urss, che ci ha indotto a una visione deterministica del futuro. Un tempo risolto nell’avvento definitivo del paradigma liberal-capitalistico, in cui la politica cedeva il posto alla tecnocrazia e la strategia ai commerci, viatico di pace mondiale. A tale filosofia della (non) storia abbiamo dato un nome: globalizzazione. Oggi, di fronte ai violenti sussulti indotti dalla crisi del primato di Washington, la globalizzazione si svela fenomeno geopolitico, prima e più che economico. Immersi nel secolo americano non ce ne siamo accorti, dandone per scontati i tratti: il primato delle società liberali, la forza unificante delle interdipendenze, la compiutezza delle economie capitalistiche. Assunti messi ora in discussione, fuori e dentro l’America. Smontando il mito della globalizzazione come feticcio, possiamo storicizzarla e provare a immaginare quale mondo ci aspetta.

La narrazione cinematografica anticipa di molti decenni le caratteristiche di un'intelligenza artificiale destinata prima o poi a prendere il sopravvento sull'umanit�. In tale opera cinematografica tendeva ad emergere quella sorta di paura latente che gli esseri umani percepiscono quando un futuro inquietante sembra approssimarsi. Una paura che nel film si manifestava nel momento in cui l'uomo aveva acquisito la consapevolezza di non essere solo nell'universo.Gli esseri umani oltre a non essere preparati alla rivelazione della possibile esistenza di vita extraterrestre su altri pianeti, non sono psicologicamente predisposti all'avvento dell'intelligenza artificiale. Quest'ultima potrebbe rivelarsi come l'innovazione tecnologica pi� importante della storia umana, ma le implicazioni ad essa connesse potrebbero essere catastrofiche in ogni ambito.Questo libro analizza in modo relativamente sintetico gli aspetti negativi che caratterizzeranno l'avvento dell'intelligenza artificiale, un nuovo paradigma in grado di mutare il destino dell'umanit�.

Ci stiamo dirigendo verso la peggiore catastrofe economica della nostra vita. I decenni postbellici all’insegna della crescita economica e di una prosperità sempre più diffusa rischiano di lasciare campo libero a una crisi economica diversa da tutto ciò che abbiamo visto dai tempi della Grande depressione. Questa crisi potrebbe essere aggravata dal cambiamento climatico, dal collasso demografico, dalle politiche nazionaliste che limitano l’immigrazione, dalla competizione globale tra la Cina (e i suoi alleati “revisionisti” come Russia, Iran e Corea del Nord) e gli Stati Uniti assieme ai loro alleati, e infine da una rivoluzione tecnologica che eliminerà più posti di lavoro in minor tempo di quanto sia mai successo. Nei prossimi vent’anni dobbiamo aspettarci una collisione titanica di forze economiche, finanziarie, tecnologiche, ambientali, geopolitiche, sanitarie e sociali. Ognuna di esse è formidabile. Se dovessero convergere, le conseguenze sarebbero devastanti. La soluzione del problema imporrà un adattamento colossale di tutti gli abitanti della Terra. Prima del disastro finanziario del 2008, Nouriel Roubini era stato soprannominato Doctor Doom, profeta di catastrofi. Poi le sue previsioni sulla crisi immobiliare e sulla Grande recessione si sono avverate, ma ormai era troppo tardi. Ora è tornato con un monito molto più spaventoso: esistono dieci grandi problemi sovrapposti e interconnessi, che ci fanno pencolare sull’orlo del precipizio. Eppure quasi tutti ancora ci illudiamo che il futuro somiglierà al passato. Un errore colossale. Esistono alcune strategie per sopravvivere, ma dobbiamo agire ora: “Ho scritto questo libro perché sono convinto che dobbiamo aspettarci dieci grandi minacce, di portata tanto immensa e di tale urgenza che siamo costretti a guardare al futuro con la testa sgombra, e fare il possibile per impedire che ci distruggano.”
