A previously healthy 7-year-old castrated male mixed-breed dog was referred for further evaluation of severe trauma secondary to being hit by a vehicle. On initial evaluation, the dog was treated for hypovolemic shock. The extent of the dog's wounds included severe bilateral degloving injuries extending approximately from the elbow to the metacarpals and involving approximately 40% of the circumference of the antebrachium, a right humeral fracture, left carpal shearing injury, and an introverted right maxillary canine tooth. As the degloving wounds were grossly contaminated and viable tissue for primary closure was not present, second intention healing was the therapeutic goal. The right humeral fracture was repaired with internal fixation plates. The antebrachial carpal and middle carpal joints were arthrodesed and a transarticular external skeletal fixator placed. The right maxillary canine tooth was surgically extracted. The dog's healing progressed well and it was discharged after 23 days in the hospital.
