What is it like to be young and religious in migration society? This volume presents research at the intersection of religion, age and race. The chapters' foci range from methodological challenges to conceptual work and empirical case studies. The authors present research on various religious traditions including contributions on young Alevis, Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims, and apply an array of theoretical angles among them feminist, post- and de-colonial perspectives. Furthermore, the volume engages in the debate over novel conceptual frameworks attuned to investigate contemporary manifestations of youth religiosity, for example in digital spaces. The methodological chapters advocate for reflexivity in the context of empirical research on religion in migration society and promote a self-evaluative assessment of researchers' positionalities.

Drawing from the leading scholarship in the field, Gender and Development: The Economic Basis of Women′s Power helps students develop a foundational understanding of the significant role that gender plays in developing societies. Award-winning scholars Samuel Cohn and Rae Lesser Blumberg have carefully selected and edited a collection of readings that encourage students to think critically about the economic power (or lack thereof) of women, and apply key concepts and theory related to gender and current development issues. From women’s participation in labor markets to their financial autonomy and purchasing power, these readings enable students to explore the economic implications of female power and the importance of women’s strategic indispensability. Key Features: Distinguished scholars in the field offer students distinctive personalized points of view that extend the study of women’s power, gender, and development in new and interesting directions. A wide range of countries/regions, perspectives, and issues is explored to enable instructors the flexibility to introduce students to a variety of key concepts in a manner that works for their classrooms. Analysis of the cause and effect of women’s power offers students insights on the inter-relation between gender and development. "Guide to the Book" provides students with context for understanding gender and development, as well as introduces students to the key theories that they will explore throughout the book.

This book presents a collection of papers discussing especially social factors that support individuals, organizations, markets, and societies confronted with socio-economic crises. The papers were written mainly by international sociologists dealing with social resilience from different viewpoints and offering new theoretical perspectives as well as empirical facts. Why are so many researchers, politicians, and practitioners thinking and writing about resilience today? Social scientists have started only recently to deal with social resilience in various spheres. Since not long ago, resilience was strongly connected with the question of what makes individuals or ecosystems to overcome threats like disruption, catastrophes, external shocks etc. Thus, a new research perspective on resilience is offered.

This book provides an inventory of modes of inquiry for ethnographic research and presents fieldwork as an act of relational invention. It advances contemporary debates in ethnography by arguing that the empirical practice of anthropology is and has always been an inventive activity. Bringing together contributions from scholars across the world, the volume offers an expansive vision of the resourcefulness that anthropologists unfold in their empirical investigations by compiling inventive social and material techniques, or field devices, for anthropological inquiry. The chapters seek to inspire both novel and experienced practitioners of ethnography to venture into the many possibilities of fieldwork, to demonstrate the essential creative and inventive practices neglected in traditional accounts of ethnography, and to invite anthropologists to confidently engage in inventive fieldwork practices.
