Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Geowissenschaften / Geographie - Regionalgeographie, Note: 1,0, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Weltpolitik nach Ende des zweiten Weltkriegs wurde, bis zur Auflösung der Sowjetunion 1991, in nahezu allen Bereichen durch die Weltordnung des seither schwelenden ‚Kalten Krieges‘ zwischen den Staaten des ‚Ostblocks‘ und den ‚Westmächten‘ bestimmt. Allen voran aufgrund der riesigen Nuklearwaffenarsenale der beiden Lager kam es im Verlaufe des Ost-West-Konflikts zu keinen offenen militärischen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen den beiden Mächten. Gleichwohl versuchten beide Lager ihre Einflusssphären auszubauen. Dies führte zu einer Vielzahl von Interventionen in Drittstaaten. Der Anfang der 1960er-Jahre brachte eine Vielzahl von Veränderungen in die weltpolitische Landschaft und markierte zugleich eine der ‚heißesten‘ Phasen des ‚Kalten Krieges‘: So wurde das Jahr 1960 zum „Afrikanischen Jahr“, in welchem 18 afrikanische Kolonien ihre Unabhängigkeit erlangten. Dabei lief die Erlangung der Unabhängigkeit nicht immer reibungslos ab. Ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel dafür ist die ‚Kongo-Krise‘ von 1960 - 1964, welche den Kongo zwischen die Fronten des ‚Kalten Krieges‘ geraten lässt. Darüber hinaus wurde Afrikas Dekolonisation in besonderer Weise durch den Nord-Süd-Gegensatz zwischen den jungen Staaten Afrikas und ihren (ehemaligen) Kolonialmächten bestimmt. Die Verbindung der Konfliktlinien von Nord-Süd- und Ost-West-Konflikt zeigt dabei, dass in Afrika die Konfrontation zwischen Imperialismus und Anti-Imperialismus eine große Rolle spielte. Zur Klärung des Frage, welchen Einfluss die zentralen Akteure des ‚Kalten Krieges‘ auf die Dekolonisation Afrikas ausübten, wird in dieser Arbeit am Beispiel der ‚Kongo-Krise‘ die Rolle der involvierten internationalen Akteure vor dem Hintergrund des Ost-West-Gegensatzes analysiert. Dazu werden zunächst die wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Entwicklung vor der Unabhängigkeit dargestellt. Im Anschluss daran erfolgt eine Skizzierung des Verlaufs der Krise. Auf der Grundlage dieser Skizzierung sollen im anschließenden Kapitel die jeweiligen Rollen der entscheidenden internationalen Akteure beleuchtet werden. Aufgrund der ihrer jeweiligen dominierenden Stellung innerhalb ihrer Machtblöcke, konzentriert sich diese Arbeit auf die Analyse der beiden Supermächte USA und UdSSR. Zusätzlich wird die Bedeutung der UN für den Konflikt und ihre Einbettung in das Machtsystem des ‚Kalten Krieges‘ näher analysiert. Die Rolle ehemalige Kolonialmacht Belgien wird zudem ebenfalls analysiert.
