Es sind die einfachen allt glichen Dinge im Leben, die mich dazu bewegen, stark oder schwach zu sein. Ich habe immer wieder bemerkt, dass ich selbst einen entscheidenden Anteil dazu beitrage, wie meine Umwelt mit mir und ich mit ihr umgehe. In den letzten Jahren habe ich stetig versucht, meinem jeweiligen Gegen ber Offenheit, Beachtung und Anerkennung zu vermitteln. Gro e Worte, die jedoch im Vergleich kleine Gesten fordern. Ein L cheln, Zuspruch, eine Motivation, wirkliches Interesse, eine sachliche Kritik, ernst gemeinte Hilfestellung oder eine Umarmung k nnen in einem Menschen viel Positives ausl sen. Dieser Level ist nat rlich nicht immer zu halten, deswegen versuche ich, mir eine entsprechend gesunde innerliche Haltung anzueignen und sie authentisch im Alltag zu leben. Unabh ngig davon, welcher p dagogische Ansatz vertreten wird, ist es wichtig zu verstehen, dass die heutige Gesellschaft, die einerseits gekennzeichnet ist durch berfluss, Schnelllebigkeit, Leistungsdruck, Oberfl chlichkeit und Egoismus, aber andererseits auch durch Armut und Ausgrenzung, einen Ausgleich fordert. Nicht nur die Starken sollten gefordert und gef rdert werden, sondern ebenso auch die Schwachen. Eine P dagogik der Anerkennung betrachtet den Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven, steht ihm offen in seinem Wesen gegen ber, schenkt gesunde Anerkennung und Wertsch tzung und f rdert individuell die Selbstwirksamkeit wie ebenfalls die Selbstwirksamkeits berzeugung des einzelnen. In Filmprojekten mit der Methode der biographischen Spielfilmarbeit konnte ich mehrfach Erfahrungen sammeln, was ein resilienter Umgang bewirken kann. Männlichkeiten stehen im Brennpunkt aktueller bildungspolitischer und erziehungswissenschaftlicher Debatten. Betrachtet man die Diskussion um ‚Jungen als „Bildungsverlierer‘ scheint bereits Männlichkeit als solche ein Benachteiligungsrisiko zu sein. Gegenwärtig gibt es Bestrebungen, Männer bzw. Männlichkeiten in pädagogischen Institutionen besonders in den Fokus zu nehmen: Initiativen für mehr männliche Fachkräfte in Kindertagesstätten oder Schulen wollen durch die bloße Präsenz von Männern mehr Bildungsgerechtigkeit schaffen. Dabei wird Männlichkeit aktuell als professionelle Ressource identifiziert. Eine zugeschriebene männliche Geschlechtszugehörigkeit scheint an sich bereits ausreichend für die Qualität pädagogischer Professionalität. Konstruktionen von Männlichkeiten beeinflussen darüber hinaus die Etablierung institutioneller Strukturen.

This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate "translation." These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the "new" tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.

This book provides an illuminating account of teachers’ own reflections on their experiences of teaching in urban schools. It was conceived as a direct response to policy-related and media-generated concerns about male teacher shortage and offers a critique of the call for more male role models in elementary schools to address important issues regarding gender, race and the politics of representation. By including the perspectives of minority teachers and students, and by drawing on feminist, queer and anti-racist frameworks, this book rejects the familiar tendency to resort to role modelling as a basis for explaining or addressing boys’ disaffection with schooling. Indeed, the authors argue, on the basis of their research in urban schools in Canada and Australia, that educational policy concerned with male teacher shortage and the plight of disadvantaged minority boys would benefit from engaging with analytic perspectives and empirical literature that takes readers beyond hegemonic discourses of role modelling. A compelling case is presented for the need to disarticulate discourses about role modelling from a politics of representation that is committed to addressing the reality of the impact of racial and structural inequalities on both minority teachers and students’ participation in the education system. The book also provides insight into the persistence of gender inequality as it relates to the status of elementary school teaching as women’s work.

The heightened interest in and the rapid expansion of adult education has become a trend in a variety of environments. In The Organization and Planning of Adult Education Kowalski examines the issues created by providing a social service in diverse organizational settings and presents a format for initiating and developing adult education programs. In order to comprehend the complexity of the context of programming within an organization, two novel components are included: first, a typology of sponsoring organizations is presented. This allows the reader to study program development in greater detail through a categorization of the sponsoring institutions. Second, organizational theory is applied to the process of programming in adult education.
