Quel che è certo, è che Jack Vance, pseudonimo di John Holbrook Vance, era un appassionato lettore di pulp magazine, primi fra tutti Weird Tales e Amazing Stories, e ha avuto fin da giovane una grande passione per la scrittura. Ha vinto tutti i maggiori premi nel campo della letteratura dell'immaginario (Hugo, Nebula, Fantasy Award e Edgar Allan Poe Award) con i suoi oltre sessanta libri, molti dei quali divisi in cicli. Di questo Maestro della narrativa americana, la Delos Digital sta riproponendo i suoi romanzi di fantascienza e fantasy, ma ha anche portato per la prima volta in Italia la sua autobiografia, dal titolo Ciao, sono Jack Vance! (e questa storia sono io), tradotta da Marco Riva. Proprio a questo autore, Delos Science Fiction, con il numero 212, l'ultimo di questo 2019, dedica lo speciale, con un brano dell'autobiografia e un'intervista a Silvio Sosio, che ci racconta come è nata la possibilità di pubblicare in digitale le opere di Vance e quali saranno i prossimi titoli della collana I mondi di Jack Vance. E sempre a proposito di scrittori di scrittori di fantascienza, Rafaele Izzo ci propone la recensione del romanzo Binti di Nnedi Okorafor, pubblicato da Mondadori nella collana Oscar fantastica. La Okorafor è sicuramente una delle voci più interessanti della fantascienza contemporanea. Arturo Fabra, invece, oltre a firmare l'editoriale di questo numero, analizza anche la saga di Terminator, laddove le ombre sembrano più numerose delle luci. Nella sezione rubriche, segnaliamo le nuove opere di Jeff VanderMeer e Greg Egan, mentre Donato Rotelli analizza un classico della fantascienza mainstream: L'invenzione di Morel di Adolfo Bioy Casares. Sempre nella sezione rubriche, infine, Andrea Pellccia ci racconta la storia della prima opera rock di fantascienza. Il racconto di questo mese s'intitola L'uomo invisibile ed è classico di Luigi Capuana, scrittore capace di scrivere anche storie di fantascienza e di omaggiare un altro grande scrittore, come s'intuisce dal titolo. Roberto Paura, invece, con la sua rubrica sulla "Scienza Strana" ci introduce nelle nuove teorie scientifiche sui Multiuniversi: è scienza ma sembra fantascienza. Spicca in questo numero la recensione, o per meglio dire, l'interessante e articolato intervento di Gianfranco de Turris, critico e studioso di fantastico e fantascienza ben noto a tutti gli appassionati, su "Star Wars". Se non l'avete letto, fatelo perché merita davvero per lucidità e approfondimento delle tematiche espresse sul nuovo film della saga creata da George Lucas.
