Un Visionario e un Maestro: sicuramente ci sono molti altri aggettivi per definire David Cronenberg, ma questi due ci sembrano i più giusti per dar conto di un regista e di una filmografia che sono entrati di diritto nella storia del cinema. Non abbiamo volutamente specificato cinema di genere, ma è ovvio che il lavoro del regista si ascrive a filoni quali l'horror, la fantascienza e il noir, ma sono anche così intrisi della personalità di Cronenberg che sono anche tout court film d'Autore. L'uscita di una nuova pellicola del Maestro non poteva lasciarci indifferenti e così abbiamo deciso di dedicare al suo cinema lo speciale di questo numero 238 di Delos Science Fiction. Lo speciale è composto da un articolo su Crimes of Future, questo il titolo del nuovo film, a un'intervista allo stesso Cronenberg su questa sua ultima pellicola e un'altra intervista al critico cinematografico e docente universitario Diego Del Pozzo su tutto il cinema del regista di La mosca. Il nostro Arturo Fabra, nella sezione servizi, ci racconta sia della terza stagione di The Orville, ormai sempre più una serie TV in stile Star Trek: The Next Generation e della nuova serie Marvel She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, che siamo sicuri farà breccia nei fan della Casa delle Idee. A Dario Tonani, che è nelle editocle italiane con il suo nuovo romanzo Mya di Mondo9, nella collana Urania Speciale, abbiamo chiesto di parlarci di questo suo ultimo lavoro in una lunga intervista. Per le rubriche, Giuseppe Vatinno analizza il primo film di Luigi Cozzi, ossia Il tunnel sotto il mondo, tratto da un racconto di Frederik Pohl del 1955. Marco Settembre, invece, analizza il romanzo L’accademia dei sogni di William Gibson. Infine, diamo conto dell'uscita sul mercato anglosassone dell'ultimo romanzo di Harry Turtledove. Science fiction occupies a peculiar place in the academic study of literature. For decades, scholars have looked at science fiction with disdain and have criticized it for being inferior to other types of literature. But despite the sentiments of these traditionalists, many works of science fiction engage recognized canonical texts, such as the Odyssey, and many traditionally canonical works contain elements of science fiction. More recently, the canon has been subject to revision, as scholars have deliberately sought to include works that reflect diversity and have participated in the serious study of popular culture. But these attempts to create a more inclusive canon have nonetheless continued to marginalize science fiction. This book examines the treatment of science fiction within the academy. The expert contributors to this volume explore a wide range of topics related to the place of science fiction in literary studies. These include academic attitudes toward science fiction, the role of journals and cultural gatekeepers in canon formation, and the marginalization of specific works and authors by literary critics. In addition, the volume gives special attention to multicultural and feminist concerns. In discussing these topics, the book sheds considerable light on much broader issues related to the politics of literary studies and academic inquiry.
