Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen in Hamburg hat vor mehr als vierzig Jahren eine "Theologische Kommission" eingerichtet. Sie setzt sich zusammen aus Vertretern und Vertreterinnen fast aller Konfessionen, Kirchen und Gemeinden, die zur ACK in Hamburg gehören. Dieses Gremium pflegt in den viermal jährlich stattfindenden Sitzungen und beim jährlichen Ökumenischen Studientag der ACKH das ausführliche Gespräch über zentrale theologische Themen. Ziel ist es, jeweils den Ertrag in eine Erklärung zu fassen, die veröffentlicht wird. Diese Erklärungen sind der Versuch, Theologie verständlich in heutige Sprache und heutiges Verstehen zu übersetzen und in den kirchlichen und gesellschaftlichen Diskurs einzubringen. Sie wollen und können keine verbindliche Lehrmeinung sein. Dafür hat die Kommission kein Mandat und kein Recht. Verbindlichkeit haben die Gesprächsergebnisse aber insofern, als sie aus der persönlichen Verbindlichkeit des eigenen Glaubens und aus der Verbundenheit mit Christus, dem Haupt der Kirche, gewagt werden. In diesem Sinne sind sie Einladungen und Anstöße zum Nachdenken und wollen den Leserinnen und Lesern Mut machen, die Kernfragen des christlichen Glaubens auch persönlich zu beantworten. Die Zielgruppe ist offen und weit. Angesprochen werden sollen besonders Interessierte, Fragende, Suchende und Zweifelnde. Der Herausgeberkreis wünscht den Lesenden dieser Quellensammlung interessante Einblicke in das ökumenische Leben in Hamburg und bereichernde Einsichten über den Glauben, der uns Christinnen und Christen eint.
