In der Zwischenkriegszeit reformierten autoritäre Regime in Europa ihre Wirtschafts- und Arbeitsordnung. Der italienische Faschismus (1922–1945) nahm mit seinem System des Corporativismo eine Vorreiterrolle ein und diente vielen anderen Staaten als Vorbild. Als sich das korporativistische Modell in den 1930er und -40er Jahren auch in Lateinamerika verbreitete, orientierte sich der argentinische Präsident Juan Domingo Perón (1946–1955) maßgeblich am italienischen Präzedenzfall. In der staatlichen Bildpropaganda beider Länder spielte das wirtschaftliche Reformprogramm eine herausragende Rolle. Katharina Schembs vergleicht die identitätsstiftende Rolle dieser bislang kaum untersuchten Bildpropaganda, die um das Thema der Arbeit und die Figur des Arbeiters kreiste. Damit liefert sie einen wichtigen Beitrag zur transnationalen und vergleichenden Geschichte der Bildpropaganda sowie zur Verflechtungsgeschichte zwischen Italien und Argentinien.
