Die anderen Teile der Unterhaltungsindustrie konnen im Vergleich dazu nur deutlich geringere Umsatze aufweisen. Die Filmbranche hat in 2012 einen Umsatz von 2,8 Milliarden Euro erwirtschaftet, die Computer- und Videospielbranche setzte 1,85 Milliarden Euro um und die Musikindustrie sogar nur 1,4 Milliarden Euro. Dieser Vergleich unterstreicht, in welch hohem Masse die wirtschaftliche Relevanz des Buchhandels in Deutschland weiterhin gegeben ist. Auch wenn sich ein Wandel in der Buchindustrie vollzieht, hin zu einer digitalen Bucherfassung fur eBook-Reader bzw. ahnliche Gerate und weg vom traditionell gebundenen Buch, andert sich nur wenig am Inhalt eines Buches. In jeder Woche erscheinen unzahlige Bucher. Diese konnen durch die Konsumenten nicht alle wahrgenommen und schon gar nicht bewertet werden. Konsumenten konnen sich vor einem Kauf anhand von Rezensionen einen ersten Eindruck uber ein Buch verschaffen und damit das Risiko eines Fehlkaufs verringern. Das Internet ist zum Alltag geworden, daher sind einerseits Produktbewertungen direkt in Online-Shops, aber auch uber spezielle Bewertungsportale zu den verschiedensten Produktkategorien zu finden. Hierbei geben ausschliesslich Kunden, und somit in der Regel Laien, eine Bewertung ab. Diese Bewertungen sind von unterschiedlicher Qualitat. Dahingegen erscheinen professionelle Rezensionen in Tageszeitungen oder Magazinen und haben zudem eine sehr hohe Reichweite. Das spiegelt sich anhand der Verkaufszahlen deutscher Tageszeitungen wider. In 2012 haben taglich 46,8 Mio. Menschen ein gedrucktes Zeitungsexemplar gelesen. Diese Masterarbeit untersucht den Einfluss von Buchrezensionen in verschiedenen Tageszeitungen auf den Buchabsatz unter Verwendung einer Datenbank mit Absatzdaten über 3.100 Bücher. Die betrachteten Tageszeitungen sind die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) und die Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ). Zusätzlich wurde über die Internetseite perlentaucher.de die Verfügbarkeit eigener Rezensionen bzw. kommentierter oder resümierter FAZ- und SZ-Rezensionen erfasst.

Unlike Nazi medical experiments, euthanasia during the Third Reich is barely studied or taught. Often, even asking whether euthanasia during the Third Reich is relevant to contemporary debates about physician-assisted suicide (PAS) and euthanasia is dismissed as inflammatory. Physician-Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia: Before, During, and After the Holocaust explores the history of euthanasia before and during the Third Reich in depth and demonstrate how Nazi physicians incorporated mainstream Western philosophy, eugenics, population medicine, prevention, and other medical ideas into their ideology. This book reveals that euthanasia was neither forced upon physicians nor wantonly practiced by a few fanatics, but widely embraced by Western medicine before being sanctioned by the Nazis. Contributors then reflect on the significance of this history for contemporary debates about PAS and euthanasia. While they take different views regarding these practices, almost all agree that there are continuities between the beliefs that the Nazis used to justify euthanasia and the ideology that undergirds present-day PAS and euthanasia. This conclusion leads our scholars to argue that the history of Nazi medicine should make society wary about legalizing PAS or euthanasia and urge caution where it has been legalized.
