Die Frage, die jedoch dann zuerst gestellt werden muss, ist die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang zwischen einer ADHS und der Emotionsregulation. Des Weiteren versucht die Arbeit, die Frage nach Möglichkeiten der Prävention und Intervention durch Vorstellung exemplarischer Interventions- und Präventionsprogramme zu beantworten. Das Ziel ist es, den Zusammenhang zwischen der ADHS und der Emotionsregulation darzustellen, um anschließend die Auswirkungen der Eltern auf die Emotionsregulation zu ermitteln und so auch im weiteren Sinne die Einflussfaktoren der Eltern auf eine ADHS zu bestimmen. Zudem sollen Möglichkeiten der Prävention und Intervention zur Förderung sozial-emotionaler Kompetenzen vorgestellt werden. Zunächst werden die Begrifflichkeiten der emotionalen Kompetenz und der Emotionsregulation mithilfe unterschiedlicher Definitionen geklärt. Dann werden Modelle emotionaler Kompetenz vorgestellt und schließlich wird die Bedeutung emotionaler Kompetenz anhand der Ergebnisse aus zahlreichen Studien aufgezeigt. Anschließend wird die Entwicklung der Emotionsregulation thematisiert. Es werden Risiken der emotionalen Kompetenzentwicklung aufgezeigt, indem auf Risiko-, Schutzfaktoren und Resilienz eingegangen wird und schließlich das transaktionale Entwicklungsverständnis erläutert wird.
