Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Geschichte Deutschlands - Erster Weltkrieg, Weimarer Republik, Note: 2,0, Universität Erfurt, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit wird anhand von drei Briefen britischer Soldaten unterschiedlicher Ränge ausgearbeitet, wie diese die deutschen Soldaten während des kurzen Weihnachtsfriedens 1914 an der Westfront wahrnahmen. Im Dezember 1914 befanden sich die Nationen Europas bereits seit 4 Monaten in einem Krieg, von dem alle dachten, es würde ein kurzer, ein siegreicher werden. Niemand rechnete mit einem Krieg der noch Jahre dauern würde. Die Soldaten befanden sich in einer gänzlich neuen Situation und Art von Krieg. Ab Oktober verflüchtigte sich jede Hoffnung auf ein schnelles Ende und die Euphorie wich einer wachsenden Verzweiflung, aus welcher im Endeffekt der Weihnachtsfrieden entstand. In dieser Arbeit befasst sich der Autor mit der Ausgangssituation für den kurzen Frieden befassen, beginnend mit dem Kriegsausbruch und einem kurzen Umriss des Kriegsverlaufs an der Westfront, woraufhin die endgültige Situation vor dem Frieden beleuchtet wird. Der Frieden an sich wird hauptsächlich auf Basis von Briefen britischer Soldaten analysiert, um die darauffolgende Frage nach der Darstellung der Deutschen in diesen Briefen zu beantworten. Die Briefe stammen, wie bereits erwähnt, von Soldaten, unterschiedlicher Ränge, wodurch ein breiteres Sichtfeld auf die Wahrnehmung des Friedens entsteht. Ob sich das grundlegende Bild der Deutschen in den Augen der britischen Gegner durch den von ihnen initiierten Frieden wandelte, bleibt dennoch zweifelhaft.
