North Korea's regime has managed to survive in the face of serious internal and external challenges. Kim (political science, Columbia U., US) and Lee (foreign policy and security studies, Sejong Institute, South Korea) present eight essays that address North Korea's system survival strategies in the context of these challenges from a variety of theoretical perspectives, including assymetrical conflict theory, mercantile neorealism, and prospect theory. The papers are organized into three sections that explore the broad theoretical and practical aspects of North Korean-Northeast Asian relations (Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the United States are the Northeast Asian powers for the purposes of this discussion); the global, regional, and national forces that have shaped patterns of conflict and cooperation with the Northeast Asian powers, and the effects of the security and economic domains on system survival strategies. The Wrong War written by Rosemary Foot and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-30 with Political Science categories.

In 1951, General Omar Bradley declared publicly that war with China would involve the United States "in the wrong war, at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and with the wrong enemy." Despite the stated intent of the U.S. to keep the Korean conflict from spreading, the debate on extending the war was far more intense and protracted than previous accounts of this period have suggested. Concentrating on the debate over expansion, Rosemary Foot reveals the strains it caused both within the U.S. bureaucracy and between America and its North Atlantic allies. She supplies important new information on the U.S. government's appraisal of Sino-Soviet relations between 1950 and 1953, and makes clear that a high proportion of U.S. officials came to recognize the limited nature of Soviet support for China. Explaining why the Eisenhower administration nearly unleashed nuclear weapons on China in the spring of 1953, Foot demonstrates that the Korean war would very likely have grown into a conflict of major proportions if the Chinese and North Koreans had not conceded the final issue of the truce talks—the question of the voluntary repatriation of prisoners of war.

World Event Interaction Survey Weis Project Codebook written by Charles McClelland and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with Electronic data processing categories.

The World Event/Interaction Survey (WEIS) Project is a research program examining international system characteristics and processes. Specifically, the data collected in the WEIS Project are public events reported daily in the press. The data reflect the flow of action and response between countries. One basic theoretical assumption underlying the project is that in the international political system, nations act consistently enough so that their past behavior is a source for the prediction of their present and future actions. Thus a country's external 'performance characteristics' in dealing with a wide variety of situations and with other countries are conceived to be made up of combinations of 'primary actions' that are categorized explicitly. These combinations of 'primary actions' are expected to fit together with those other countries in patterns of interaction. The purpose of the research is to discover if these theoretically expected characteristics and patterns make regular appearances in international relations. (Author) and patterns make regular appearances in international relations. (Author).

The US seems to be heading directly toward a confrontation with North Korea as Koreans in the south, and nations around the world, anxiously witness mounting tension. Carpenter and Bandow take a look at the twin crises now afflicting US policy in East Asia: the reemergence of North Korea's nuclear weapons program and the growing anti-American sentiment in South Korea. They question whether Washington's East Asia security strategy makes sense with the looming prospect of US troops stationed in South Korea becoming nuclear hostages. Carpenter and Bandow put forth the most provocative solution yet to this gnarled and dangerous situation.
