Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Orientalistik / Sinologie - Allgemeines u. Übergreifendes, Note: 2,0, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zur Zeit der "Streitenden Reiche" (479-221 v. Chr.) bildeten sich in China verschiedene philosophische Strömungen heraus: eine davon war der Taoismus. Die Taoisten hatten nie wirklich eine einheitliche Lehre und so entwickelten sich in den unterschiedlichen Gruppierungen auch die verschiedensten Praktiken. Einen Teil davon versuche ich in dieser Arbeit aufzuzeigen. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit skizziert einen zeitlichen Ausschnitt des Taoismus, indem er auf verschiedene Lehren dieser Religion eingeht. So beschäftige ich mich mit dem Taoismus der Gelbturbane, dem Taoismus der Himmelsmeister, der Lehre der höchsten Klarheit und dem Taoismus des numinosen Juwels. Dabei lege ich ein besonderes Augenmerk auf die jeweilige Lehre und ihre praktischen Umsetzungen. Näher gehe ich außerdem auf die religiösen taoistischen Zentren ein, die gut die Tätigkeiten der damaligen Taoisten zeigen. Ein historischer Einblick in die Lehren des Taoismus ist wichtig, um die noch heute in den Köpfen der Menschen verankerten Traditionen zu verstehen. Der Taoismus ist auch heute noch eine der fünf offiziellen Religionen Chinas. Zahlenmäßig gehörte der Taoismus nie zu einer der größeren Religionen und bekam deshalb nicht dieselbe Aufmerksamkeit wie etwa der Buddhismus oder der Konfuzianismus. Auch die konkrete Forschung über ihn blühte erst in den letzten Jahrzehnten auf. Doch findet man auch heute noch viele Ideale und Ideen des Taoismus in den Köpfen der asiatischen Menschen. Deshalb beschäftige ich mich im zweiten Teil dieser Arbeit mit den Ausprägungen des Taoismus in der heutigen chinesischen Gesellschaft. Besonders gehe ich auf sein Auftreten im Alltag der Chinesen ein und betrachte dabei seine Anwendung in Kunst, Kultur, Sport und Medizin. An excerpt of a supposed exchange between Laozi (attributed author of Daodejing) and Kongzi (aka Confucius). The exact source to this excerpt is unknown, but it is likely inspired by one of the Outer Chapters of the Book of Zhuangzi - 庄子-天道 (Zhuangzi: Dao/way of Heaven). 孔子解释道："吾乃忧大道不行，仁义不施，战乱不止，国乱不治也，故有人生短暂，不能有功于世、不能有为于民之感叹矣。" Kongzi explains his concerns "I am worried that should the great Dao be not moving/functioning, that benevolence and righteous be not practised, there will be no end to the chaos of war, there will be no governance/cure to the chaos in countries. Human life is short and temporary, yet I have no successful contribution to society and no useful service to the populace. This is action naturally as such by itself. It burdens not on human to act for them. As for humans, why they come to be born, come to be non-existent, come to rise in fame/glory, come to sink in disgrace/obscurity, it all has its reason/pattern naturally as such by itself too, it all has its way/dao naturally as such by itself too. Accord to the natural reason/pattern and walk, accord to the natural way/dao and move, countries will come to be governed/cured by themselves, humans will come to be correct/upright by themselves. What's the need then to indulge in propriety/ritual-music/pleasure to advocate benevolence and righteousness? This is the first Western study of the philosophy of Xu Gan (170-217), a Confucian thinker who lived at a nodal point in the history of Chinese thought, when Han scholasticism had become ossified and the creative and independent quality that characterized Wei-Jin thought was just emerging. As the theme of his study, Makeham develops an original and richly detailed account of ming shi, 'name and actuality,' one of the key pairs of concepts in early Chinese thought. He shows how Xu Gan's understanding of the 'name and actuality' relationship was most immediately influenced by Xu Gan's understanding of why the Han dynasty had collapsed, yet had its roots in a tradition of discourse that spanned the classical period (circa 500-150 B.C.E.). In reconstructing the philosophical background of Xu Gan's understanding of the relationship between 'name and actuality,' Makeham identifies two antithetical theories of naming in early Chinese thought—nominalist and correlative—a distinction that is as great as the Realist-Nominalist distinction of Western thought. He shows how Xu Gan's views on the name and actuality relationship were animated, on the one hand, by a rejection of nominalist theories of naming, and on the other hand, by a novel appropriation of correlative theories of naming. The study also analyzes two of the more immediate social and intellectual issues in the late Eastern Han (25-220) period that had prompted Xu Gan to discuss the name and actuality relationship: the ethos of the scholar-gentry (ming jiao) and Han approaches to classical scholarship. Makeham demonstrates how Xu Gan's critique of these matters is valuable not only as a late Han philosophical account of what had led to the demise of the 400-year-old Han dynasty, but also as a mode of conceptualizing that contributed to the new direction that philosophical thinking took in the third century C.E..

This is the first book-length study in any language of Jō kei (1155-1213), a prominent Buddhist cleric of the Hossō (Yog=ac=ara) school, whose life bridged the momentous transition from Heian (794-1185) to Kamakura (1185-1333) Japan. "Kamakura Buddhism" has drawn notable scholarly attention, largely because it marks the emergence of new schools-Pure Land, Nichiren, and Zen-that came to dominate the Buddhist landscape of Japan. Although Jōkei is invariably cited as one of the leading representatives of established Buddhism during the Kamakura period, he has been seriously neglected by Western scholars. In this book, James L. Ford aims to shed light on this pivotal and long-overlooked figure. Ford argues convincingly that Jōkei is an ideal personage through which to peer anew into the socio-religious dynamics of early medieval Japan. Indeed, Jōkei is uniquely linked to a number of decisive trends and issues of dispute including: the conflict between the established schools and Hōnen's exclusive nenbutsu movement; the precept-revival movement; doctrinal reform efforts; the proliferation of prominent "reclusive monks" (tonseisō); the escalation of fundraising (kanjin) campaigns and popular propagation; and the conspicuous revival of devotion toward 'Sákyamuni and Maitreya.
