Seit jeher hat das Thema Alter(n) für Individuum und Gesellschaft große Bedeutung. Zu allen Zeiten und in allen Kulturen existieren gesellschaftliche und individuelle Vorstellungen vom Alter und vom Altern. Da diese „Altersbilder“ keine unbedeutenden Begleiterscheinungen des Umgangs mit dem Alter(n) sind, sondern eine Realität schaffen, die diesen mitbegründet, ist ihre Reflexion eine wichtige Aufgabe. Altersbilder entstehen immer auf der Basis spezifischer gesellschaftlicher Bedingungen. In diesem Buch wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwiefern Unsicherheiten und Uneindeutigkeiten in der Lebensphase Alter bei der Herausbildung von Altersbildern eine Rolle spielen. Es wird vermutet, dass ungewisse Lebensbedingungen im Alter zu negativen, widersprüchlichen und/oder ambivalenten Altersbildern führen und diese wiederum auf die Lebensbedingungen der Älteren zurückwirken. Dass das Thema Alter(n) auch für junge Menschen interessant ist, zeigt diese Veröffentlichung. Sie wurde von zwölf Studierenden des Masterstudienganges für Staats- und Sozialwissenschaften geschrieben. Deren Ziel war es, einem möglichst großen Kreis von Leserinnen und Lesern einen anregenden und aufschlussreichen Einblick in die Entstehungsbedingungen von Altersbildern zu geben und zugleich die Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem gesellschaftlichen Kontext und den Vorstellungen vom Alter(n) herauszuarbeiten.
