An Inconvenient Genocide Who Now Remembers The Armenians written by Geoffrey Robertson and has been published by Random House Australia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-22 with History categories.

The most controversial issue still arising from the First World War – was there an Armenian Genocide? – will come to a head on 24th April 2015, the day when Armenians around the world will commemorate it and Turkey will deny it ever happened. This question has an international impact; 20 parliaments in democratic countries have voted to recognise the genocide, but Britain prefers to equivocate while the US is torn between Congress, which wants to recognise, and President Obama who does not, for fear of alienating its ally Turkey. In this important book, Geoffrey Robertson QC, a former UN appeals judge, sets out to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that that the massacres and deportations were a crime against humanity which amounted to genocide. The book discloses recent secret policy memoranda prepared in the Foreign Office, showing how an unethical policy of ‘genocide equivocation’ has been developed behind the scenes by British diplomats in order to avoid alienating Turkey. The memoranda reveal how British policy on this issue has twisted and turned in order to avoid stating a truth of which Lloyd George and Winston Churchill were volubly certain, about massacres which Britain condemned in 1915 as ‘a crime against humanity and civilisation’. The book makes a major contribution to the understanding of genocide, and to the steps the international community must take to prevent its recurrence. Published ahead of the centenary year of one of the biggest crimes of the last century, this extraordinary book proves conclusively that what took place in Turkey was genocide.

The Origins Of The Gulf Wars written by Morris Mehrdad Mottale and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with History categories.

An overview of the military and geostrategic history of the Persian Gulf states that focuses on the military backgrounds of the Iran-Iraq war and, to a lesser extent, the American-Iraq war. Introductory chapters briefly discuss the role of nationalism, Islam, oil, the politics of the Cold War, and the artificial (imposed by Europeans) borders of the region in fueling conflict. The recent histories and military policies of Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia are then outlined. The five factors considered most significant in causing the wars are found to be an ideological background that justified militarization as a function of leadership, a surge of oil revenue capital fueling militarization, the willingness of the United States and the Soviet Union to supply weapons, continuing simmering conflicts involving the Israelis and the Kurds, and the use of militarization to control societal forces and counter elites that challenged the political system. The Persian Gulf Tv War written by Douglas Kellner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-26 with Social Science categories.

Douglas Kellner's Persian Gulf TV War attacks the myths, disinformation, and propaganda disseminated during the Gulf war. At once a work of social theory, media criticism, and political history, this book demonstrates how television served as a conduit for George Bush's war policies while silencing anti-war voices and foregoing spirited discussion of the complex issues involved. In so doing, the medium failed to assume its democratic responsibilities of adequately informing the American public and debating issues of common concern. Kellner analyzes the dominant frames through which television presented the war and focuses on the propaganda that sold the war to the public–one of the great media spectacles and public relations campaigns of the post-World War II era. In the spirit of Orwell and Marcuse, Kellner studies the language surrounding the Gulf war and the cynical politics of distortion and disinformation that shaped the mainstream media version of the war, how the Bush administration and Pentagon manipulated the media, and why a majority of the American public accepted the war as just and moral.

Twice in a decade, Iraq marched to war: in 1980, invading Iran to start an eight-year-long slaughter; and in 1990, seizing Kuwait in a crisis pitting it against America and an international coalition. These actions shifted a little-known country to the very center of world affairs.
