Der Roman ist autobiografisch geprägt. Das Manuskript mit dem Arbeitstitel Der Schizo war 1988 dank des Engagements meiner Lektorinnen Gisela Gnausch und Sabine Pape abgeschlossen. Cheflektor Walter Lewerenz machte den Druck von etlichen Veränderungen abhängig, die wie so oft weniger in der literarischen Qualität begründet, sondern Ausdruck einer ideologischen Einflussnahme waren. Ich ließ ausrichten, dass ich mein Leben eher in einer Schublade verschwinden lassen würde, statt jenes aus politischem Wohlverhalten zu verbiegen. 1990 konnte das Buch endlich im Verlag Neues Leben Berlin erscheinen. Ende Juni 1983 erwacht der Schriftsteller JOCHEN VIERCK in einem renommierten Ostberliner Krankenhaus für Querschnittgelähmte, im Volksmund bekannt als WALDHAUS. Vierck weigert sich strikt, seine Identität anzuerkennen. Stattdessen flüchtet er in das etwas jüngere Ego JÖRG VOSSLOW, Hauptfigur eines gerade abgeschlossenen Romans. Ein SFB-Kameramann, der während der Weltfestspiele 73 aus privaten Gründen beschließt, im Ostteil Berlins zu bleiben. Turbulente Episoden zwischen 1973 und 1983 reflektiert nun sein geistiger Schöpfer Jochen Vierck, der nicht wahrhaben will, dass er querschnittgelähmt ist. Während die ebenfalls behinderten Zimmergenossen und einige Pflegekräfte Viercks Wegtauchen in ein anderes ICH (sie nennen ihn SCHIZO bzw. nach seinen Initialen JOTVAU) nicht akzeptieren, bemüht sich Dr. JUERGEN VONDERHAIDEN einfallsreich den schizophrenen Schub dieses Patienten zu kompensieren. Die Frau des Schriftstellers, DAGMAR MEHRING-VIERCK ist keine Hilfe; sie weilt anlässlich eines Verwandtenbesuchs in der BRD. Ein Telegramm aus Koblenz verrät, dass sie dort bleiben wolle. Brief folgt ... War diese für den Pflegefall und Tetraplegiker Vierck nicht zu verkraftende Nachricht der auslösende Faktor seines Identitätsverlustes? Ist sein Terrassensturz ein Suizidversuch gewesen, eine Erklärung, die Viercks befreundeter MfS-Hauptmann Deihert nicht akzeptiert. Was hat es mit dem ominösen WEISSEN STUHL auf sich, der Vierck/Vosslow durch Wach- und Albträume begleitet? Vonderhaiden leiht sich in einer Bibliothek einige Bücher des seit 1977 gelähmten Schriftstellers und präsentiert sie Vierck - keine Reaktion: Vosslow habe keine Bücher geschrieben, er sei u. a. Kameramann beim DDR-Fernsehen in Adlershof gewesen und wurde wegen Renitenz am Arbeitsplatz zur Bewährung auf die Stralsunder VOLKSWERFT delegiert.

This book discusses how ancient Japanese mythology was utilized during the colonial period to justify the annexation of Korea to Japan, with special focus on the god Susanoo. Described as an ambivalent figure and wanderer between the worlds, Susanoo served as a foil to set off the sun goddess, who played an important role in the modern construction of a Japanese national identity. Susanoo inhabited a sinister otherworld, which came to be associated with colonial Korea. Imperialist ideologues were able to build on these interpretations of the Susanoo myth to depict Korea as a dreary realm at the margin of the Japanese empire that made the imperial metropole shine all the more brightly. At the same time, Susanoo was identified as the ancestor of the Korean people. Thus, the colonial subjects were ideologically incorporated into the homogeneous Japanese family state. The book situates Susanoo in Japan's cultural memory and shows how the deity, while being repeatedly transformed in order to meet the religious and ideological needs of the day, continued to symbolize the margin of Japan.
