A linguagem percussiva é uma área do conhecimento musical de grande importância para o desenvolvimento educativo e formativo de um indivíduo como sujeito social. Principalmente na educação infantil e na adolescência, uma vez que essa prática envolve e desenvolve aspectos necessários à formação humana, como a expressão, a coletividade, a psicomotricidade e a reflexão. Ao associar outras questões relevantes como as questões étnico-raciais e ecológicas, cria-se uma tríade que é chave para o desenvolvimento desta obra. O presente estudo apresenta ao(à) leitor(a) as experiências musicais e formativas de um grupo percussivo intitulado "Batucan", desenvolvido com alunos de uma escola pública do interior do estado do Ceará. Esse grupo de batuque utiliza, além das suas práticas musicais coletivas, a confecção de seus próprios instrumentos por meio de oficinas recicláveis. Como o repertório rítmico trabalhado é de origem afro-brasileira, cria-se um link para a abordagem de temáticas voltadas à educação étnico-racial. Portanto, são nessas perspectivas – musical, ecológica e cultural – que o livro se estrutura e se embasa, objetivando uma análise concisa sobre os processos formativos emergidos nos integrantes a partir dessas atividades em um contexto de musicalização na escola. Não obstante, trata-se ainda de uma pesquisa minuciosa, destinada não apenas aos profissionais da área, mas àquele(a)s que, porventura, também se interessem em conhecer a diversidade de manifestações da cultura popular cearense, que utilizam as práticas percussivas de origem afro-brasileira como meio de expressão artística, de afirmação étnica e de resistência cultural.
