Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Biblical Theology, grade: 90, Nations University, language: English, abstract: In order to deeply understand who God is, it is always important to understand His attributes, which tell about something that is true of Him. It is important to note, however, that man can hardly understand who God is due to being a limited being. However, God reveals Himself in various ways, such as His Word and His creation, so we can wrap our minds around our awesome Creator and God. Although describing Him may fall short of capturing who He is, God possesses some attributes He has revealed to us so we can know Him. In this piece of writing, one will try describing God with mere words delivered from the scriptures. It will cover a few attributes that inform us about who God is, what kind of God He is and what He is like.

Who is this God? Attempting to describe God is like trying to paint a portrait of someone you've never seen. Each person, however, has an inward portrait of God that is painted, not with brush and paint, but with thoughts and words, on the canvas of their mind. These inward portraits of God help us develop an understanding of Who God is and how we can relate to Him. Each word or thought is like a dab of paint adding color to our portrait of God. History reveals, unfortunately, that some people have developed terribly distorted portraits of God. Paul wrote about these people, describing them as people who "think up silly ideas of what God was like and what he wanted them to do and their foolish minds became dark and confused" (Romans 1:21 LB). God was not and is not willing to allow the reality of Who He is or how He is to be experienced to be obscured by either nature, the heathen, the pagan or the fool. Through His revelation, He has made Himself known. Through God's revelation we understand that He has certain attributes or qualities that distinguish Him from His creation. This Classic book - The Attributes Of God -- introduces and orients the reader to critical biblical/theological thinking about God -- with a clarity that fosters biblical thought and facilitates Bible comprehension. Two Gods In Heaven written by Peter Schäfer and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-03 with Religion categories.

A book that challenges our most basic assumptions about Judeo-Christian monotheism Contrary to popular belief, Judaism was not always strictly monotheistic. Two Gods in Heaven reveals the long and little-known history of a second, junior god in Judaism, showing how this idea was embraced by rabbis and Jewish mystics in the early centuries of the common era and casting Judaism's relationship with Christianity in an entirely different light. Drawing on an in-depth analysis of ancient sources that have received little attention until now, Peter Schäfer demonstrates how the Jews of the pre-Christian Second Temple period had various names for a second heavenly power—such as Son of Man, Son of the Most High, and Firstborn before All Creation. He traces the development of the concept from the Son of Man vision in the biblical book of Daniel to the Qumran literature, the Ethiopic book of Enoch, and the Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria. After the destruction of the Second Temple, the picture changes drastically. While the early Christians of the New Testament took up the idea and developed it further, their Jewish contemporaries were divided. Most rejected the second god, but some—particularly the Jews of Babylonia and the writers of early Jewish mysticism—revived the ancient Jewish notion of two gods in heaven. Describing how early Christianity and certain strands of rabbinic Judaism competed for ownership of a second god to the creator, this boldly argued and elegantly written book radically transforms our understanding of Judeo-Christian monotheism.

There are many voices describing God. This book focuses only on one voice, the voice of Jesus and his description of God. It may startle you to hear from his own lips that his father bears very little resemblance to the Old Testament God taught in the synagogues and churches.(Paperback 114 pages)
