The use of hallucinogens in pursuit of a spiritual revelation is not a unique practice. From Peyote to LSD, people of different cultures have experimented with drug-induced visions in hopes of a glimpse beyond the known world. But what of those non-volunteers who have been subjected to hallucinations through no choice of their own? Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever, or San Joaquin Valley Fever) is a fungal disease found in the soil of the southwest and carried on the desert wind. As a girl growing up in Arizona, Wendy Padilla, was exposed to Valley Fever. Her hallucinations had a reoccurring theme - Bears. As an adult these supposed hallucinations were interpreted by a Native American shaman as visions, influencing Wendy's life and her writing. VALLEY FEVER, Wendy Padilla's first novel, explores the spiritual journey of several fictional characters in the year 1885 and 1990. Their lives are intertwined and their destiny revealed through a whirlwind of time travel.

The sole reason for writing this book was to show others living with Valley Fever that change is possible. The medical professionals weren't giving me good solutions and didn't have an answer. Medication wasn't working. Yet, I knew I could do better which would make me feel better. Believe me, at first every day was a struggle with my Coccidioidomycosis symptoms. This book is my personal experience and details my journey back to health and how I went from sitting on the couch watching life pass me by to living a life as good or better than before I was diagnosed. The changes that I implemented are offered to you so you can try them for yourself. Nothing in this book is complicated and I am compelled to share this information so you too can take charge of your Valley Fever treatment. Read it for yourself, and make it your own. If you are living in pain and despair because of Valley Fever like I was, what do you have to lose? See if these small changes work for you, like they worked for me, and start your journey back to health.

In California, most of the old-time pioneers and many of their children and grand-children recount episodes of a disease once referred to as soil-breaking fever . They recall that one to four weeks after a severe dust storm, or after plowing the sun baked soil, illness sometimes occurred and victims suffered a prolonged flu-like episode. Occasionally, deep seated disease or death terminated this unhappy respiratory experience with San Joaquin Valley Dust. The immigrants recognized that the illness was one that did not occur in their former abodes. They coined the terms Valley Fever and San Joaquin Valley Fever to describe it; the lexicon also included Desert Rheumatism and Desert Fever. Ecologic studies have not determined clearly the reason for the preference that Coccidioides immitis has for the San Joaquin Valley, the Southwest of the United States and specific locations in Mexico, Central America and South America. The fungus resides only in soils of the New World and its failure to spread beyond its well defined boundaries is a mystery. Keywords: Valley Fever, Dust, Spores, Flu-like episodes, Coccidioides immitis; Fungus diseases; Reprints.
