Abstract: "Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network technology is expected to become a central part of the emerging global information infrastructure. ATM networks introduce a number of features that distinguish them from earlier technologies and introduce new issues in network control. This paper offers a framework for precisely defining and analyzing alternative approaches to the distributed control of ATM networks and explores some of the key design issues through a series of examples. It is hoped that it will provide a useful foundation for researchers in networking and distributed computing interested in exploring these issues further and developing more complete solutions."

This project was a comprehensive research program for developing techniques for improving the performance of Internet protocols over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) based satellite networks. Among the service categories provided by ATM networks, the most commonly used category for data traffic is the unspecified bit rate (UBR) service. UBR allows sources to send data into the network without any feedback control. The project resulted in the numerous ATM Forum contributions and papers. High Performance Data Network Design written by Tony Kenyon and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-24 with Computers categories.

High-Performance Data Network Design contains comprehensive coverage of network design, performance, and availability. Tony Kenyon provides the tools to solve medium- to large-scale data network design problems from the ground up. He lays out a practical and systematic approach that integrates network planning, research, design, and deployment, using state-of-the-art techniques in performance analysis, cost analysis, simulation, and topology modeling. The proliferation and complexity of data networks today is challenging our ability to design and manage them effectively. A new generation of Internet, e-commerce, and multimedia applications has changed traditional assumptions on traffic dynamics, and demands tight quality of service and security guarantees. These issues, combined with the economics of moving large traffic volumes across international backbones, mean that the demands placed on network designers, planners, and managers are now greater than ever before. High-Performance Data Network Design is a "must have" for anyone seriously involved in designing data networks. Together with the companion volume, Data Networks: Routing, Security, and Performance Optimization, this book gives readers the guidance they need to plan, implement, and optimize their enterprise infrastructure. · Provides real insight into the entire design process · Includes basic principles, practical advice, and examples of design for industrial-strength enterprise data networks · Integrates topics often overlooked—backbone optimization, bottleneck analysis, simulation tools, and network costing

Design Of Nonblocking Atm Networks written by J. Andrew Fingerhut and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Asynchronous transfer mode categories.

Abstract: "This paper considers the problem of designing ATM networks that are nonblocking with respect to virtual circuit requests, subject to specified constraints on the traffic. In this paper, we focus on global traffic constraints that simply limit the total entering and exiting traffic at each switching system. After reviewing prior results for linear link costs, we introduce a more realistic link cost model, and develop a number of results using it. We also describe a technique for converting tree-structured networks to nonblocking hierarchical networks satisfying limits on the capacity of any single switch."

ATM Network Performance, Second Edition, describes approaches to computer and communication network management at the ATM layer of the protocol hierarchy. The focus is on satisfying quality-of-service requirements for individual connections. Results in both areas of bandwidth scheduling and traffic control are explained. Recent results in end-to-end performance, provisioning for video connections and statistical multiplexing are also described. All of the material has been updated where appropriate and new references added and expanded. Timely updates: Entirely new chapter on ATM switches with an emphasis on scalable-to-terabit switching. New material on round-robin scheduling, jitter control, QoS paradigms as well as special treatment of fluid modeling and variable bit rate channel capacity. Expanded coverage of CBR channels, IP over ATM, and guaranteed-rate performance. Substantial increase in end-of-chapter exercises. Solutions for selected exercises in separate appendix. Complete solutions for all exercises also available from author.
