Impressionist Post Impressionist Drawing written by Christopher Lloyd and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-10 with Art categories.

An unprecedented volume featuring over two hundred drawings by twenty Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists. Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Paul Ce´zanne, Georges Seurat, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and their colleagues made some of the most beautiful drawings in the history of art. This book sets drawings by the impressionists and post-impressionists in the context of late nineteenth-century France, explaining why these particular works are as important as these artists’ paintings in the representation of modernity. A new approach to materials and a wholly inclusive attitude to exhibitions elevated drawing's status higher in this period than ever before, which avant-garde artists welcomed in their preference for scenes from contemporary life. For the first time, painting and drawing shared the same stylistic principles of spontaneity, freer handling, and lack of finish. Pastels by Degas, watercolors by Ce´zanne, pen-and-ink drawings by Van Gogh, and mixed media works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec have an autonomy of their own, which proved instrumental in the development of modern art. With short introductory essays on twenty of the leading Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists, each followed by a portfolio of their drawings, Impressionist & Post-Impressionist Drawing highlights an aspect of French avant-garde art that was of immense importance for the art movements that followed.

Le Post Impressionnisme written by Nathalia Brodskaya and has been published by Parkstone International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-10 with Art categories.

This paradox - the sadness and health of the country - reflects van Gogh’s own situation: nature always was a kind of home for him - a home that he could never share with anyone else. In Saint-Rémy, van Gogh had worked on a picture named The Reaper: “For I see in this reaper […] the image of death, in the sense that humanity might be the wheat he is reaping. So he is — if you like — the antithesis of that sower I tried to do before. But there’s nothing sad in this death, it goes its way in broad daylight with the sun flooding everything with a light of pure gold.” […] A few weeks before his suicide van Gogh had written to Theo: “Even if I have not succeeded, all the same I think that what I have worked at will be carried on. Not directly, but one isn’t alone in believing in things that are true. And what does it matter personally then? I feel so strongly that it is the same with people as it is with wheat, if you are not sown in the earth to germinate there, what does it matter? In the end you are ground between the millstones to become bread. The difference between happiness and unhappiness! Both are necessary and useful, as well as death or disappearance… it is so relative - and life is the same.”

Carnegie Museum of Art's impressive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, prints and works on paper has never before been presented as a group. More than simply a selection of highlights, this handbook weaves together objects from the collection to tell the stories of these innovative movements and the groundbreaking artists behind them, including Manet, Monet, Degas, Cassatt, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin and Matisse. More than 75 entries exploring nearly 100 objects are punctuated by brief artist biographies that highlight themes of friendship, influence and artistic exchange. Close visual analyses of individual objects are supplemented by contextual illustrations to illuminate the place of these masterworks within the larger story of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Particularly rich holdings of works by Bonnard, Cassatt, Degas and Pissarro allow for an examination of the development of their art across media and over time.
