The Novel in Anglo-German Context focuses on cross-currents and affinities between fiction written in English and fiction written in German, and the thirty-one contributors to this volume cover authors from the eighteenth century to the present day. The essays collected in this book approach the theme of Anglo-German cultural cross-fertilisation from a number of different angles. These include the reception and translation of foreign authors, the examination of exile writers, the comparative exploration of aspects which are crucial to both German, Austrian or Swiss and British or Irish novelists at a given point in time, the fictional depiction of the respective other culture, Anglo-German images in the novel, as well as the role of the novel in the curricula of German and British secondary education. The topics chosen by the contributors offer stimulating views on a wide range of subject areas, and the volume is essential reading for anyone with a broad interest in Anglo-Irish, German, Austrian and Swiss literature, the development of fiction as well as Anglo-German literary and cultural relations.

This book addresses the highly differentiated spatial, social, cultural and demographic structure(s) of Germany, with a particular focus on the reciprocal relations between different levels of spatial development. The historical development of Germany serves as a background in order to provide context for the development of spatially relevant ideas and ideals (whether in relation to politics, landscape, or culture). In this regard, questions of divergence and convergence become highly salient. The book makes the complexity of spatial and social developments in Germany comprehensible. The neopragmatic approach adopted here allows bringing together different theoretical strands while providing a basis for independent regional geographic research at the same time. Beginning with an overview of the physical structures of Germany which provides the material point of departure for the societal development of Germany, key aspects of the German history are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the reciprocal influence between material substrate and notions of landscape. Here, specific ‘German’ trajectories of aesthetic and normative conceptions of landscape become clear. A common theme throughout the book are questions of divergence and of efforts towards convergence, which become evident when considering past and present economic, political, and demographic developments. Efforts to tackle current challenges, such as adapting to climate change and mitigating it, or securing raw materials, also become apparent. The complexity of spatial processes in Germany is illustrated in case study regions dealing with the challenges of structural change in traditional industrial regions (such as the Ruhr area), or e.g. efforts of Berlin to position and find itself as the capital of a unified Germany. Overall, the book shows how theory-driven regional geographic research can make spatiotemporal complexities tangible and comprehensible.

After Hitler written by Konrad H. Jarausch and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-08-31 with History categories.

In the spring of 1945, as the German army fell in defeat and the world first learned of the unspeakable crimes of the Holocaust, few would have expected that, only half a century later, the Germans would emerge as a prosperous people at the forefront of peaceful European integration. How did the Germans manage to recover from the shattering experience of defeat in World War II and rehabilitate themselves from the shame and horror of the Holocaust? In After Hitler, Konrad H. Jarausch shows how Germany's determination to emphasize civility and civil society, destroyed by the Nazi regime, helped restore the demoralized nation during the post-war period. Unlike other intellectual inquiries into German efforts to deal with the Nazi past, After Hitler primarily focuses on the practical lessons a disoriented people drew from their past misdeeds, and their struggle to create a new society with a sincere and deep commitment to human rights. After Hitler offers a comprehensive view of the breathtaking transformation of the Germans from the defeated Nazi accomplices and Holocaust perpetrators of 1945 to the civilized, democratic people of today's Germany.

This book systematically explores the issue in terms of its four central dimensions: Germany's identity, national unity, power, and role in world politics. This book presents developments and future trends in e-commerce, which is shaped by customers' new digital communication and consumption patterns. Gerrit Heinemann sheds light on e-commerce business models, channel excellence as well as success factors such as digital time advantages and customer centricity. He analyzes the digital challenges and highlights the consequences and opportunities associated with online commerce. Recognized best practices illustrate how successful digital commerce works and what the "lessons learned" of the past years are. The 13th edition describes which new approaches will shape the future of online retail and which developments will remain long-term issues. While, for example, app and smartphone commerce, including mobile payment, continue to be long-running issues, the environmental issue is coming at online commerce with a concentrated charge. This means that people's growing need for more sustainability and consideration for the environment has now also arrived in e-commerce. This work is therefore devoted to sustainable e-commerce in the context of online logistics, which runs counter to the new trend towards quick commerce. The topics of climate neutrality and returns management are also increasingly coming into focus. In addition, current topics such as the marketplace theme and social commerce will be explored in greater depth. Furthermore, numerous new legal requirements are taken into account, which place increased obligations on marketplace operators in particular. The content - Meta-targeting and business ideas in online retailing - Business model of online trade - Forms of online trade - Business systems and benchmarks in e-commerce - Best practices and risks in online retailing

* When and under what influences did scientific psychology originate in different parts of the world? * What are the intra- and international/regional sources of influence that have affected its development into the present form? These questions were applied to three regions and three countries, which were as follows (the names of the authors in charge are in parentheses): Latin American countries (Juan Jose Sanchez-Soza, Mexico), Scandinavian countries (Ingvar Lundberg, Sweden), German-speaking countries (Lothar Sprung, Germany), Spain (Helio Carpintero, Spain), China (Qicheng Jing and Fu Xiaolan, China), and Japan (Tadasu Oyama, Japan). Visual presentations, including maps of these regions/countries, tables showing the pedigrees of scientific psychology, and chronological tables with names of psychologists and affiliations, illustrate the stream of influences both temporally and spatially. These figures and tables are also used to look forward to the psychology of the 21st century.
