For most adults, development is a process we associate with external specialists - our parents, teachers, lecturers and trainers; people who have provided us with the stimuli to develop. Few of us feel we are competent to undertake personal development on our own.675 Ways to Develop Yourself and Your People offers individuals an alphabet of opportunities for learning in the workplace. The manual recognizes that development at work involves our mind, our body and our spirit and provides strategies and techniques that anyone can adopt.By providing a set of 50 individual learning opportunities and processes, from Achieving Ambitions with Goal Setting to Working with Gender Differences, Laurel Alexander offers you the Swiss cheese approach (bore a hole at a time and there are soon more holes than cheese) to what can otherwise seem too big a task to even begin. Identify the ideas with which you have greatest empathy, or where you see the greatest need, or simply tackle an opportunity a week. However you choose to approach the process, you'll soon be taking control of your own development, with all of the benefits in terms of increased self-awareness, self-esteem, skill and confidence that this will bring. To help you make the most of each learning opportunity, the manual provides you with over 600 ideas, techniques and activities, for example:- individual tasks and reflections - to help make the learning real;- activities, questions and ideas for working with others - so that you can learn with and from your colleagues;- questions and exercises for use with a mentor;- collections of group activities, role plays and projects - for you to help facilitate the development process in others; and- Internet links - as a springboard to learning opportunities beyond your workplace. This is truly a holistic collection of resources for developing yourself and those around you. Laurel Alexander helps you to engage your (multiple) intelligences, spirituality, physicality, personal and work values and to open your eyes to all of the opportunities you face during your daily work, for developing your skills.Whatever your starting point, here is a blueprint for developing the competence and confidence to turn each of us into our own self-development specialist.

Eye Care In Developing Nations Fourth Edition written by Larry Schwab and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-07-31 with Medical categories.

The number of the millions of blind in the world continues to grow, causing needless social and economic deprivation. Most of these blind can be cured, and much of the remainder prevented if all people had access to the simple and effective interventions that already exist. In this newly revised fourth edition of ‘Eye Care in Developing Nations’, the author describes in practical detail, what these interventions consist of and how they can be readily implemented. This is the handyman’s guide to delivering eye services to low-resource populations, whether they are pockets of poverty in otherwise affluent countries or broadly deprived populations living in the developing world. Demand for the first three editions from around the world has proved this book’s value. In this expanded and updated edition all chapters have been revised to reflect developments in public health and in medical and surgical treatments and techniques. The book’s value is further enhanced in the fourth edition by the greater emphasis given to clinical ophthalmology and the provision for the first time of colour photos and diagrams throughout.

Developing Students Statistical Reasoning written by Joan Garfield and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-08 with Education categories.

Increased attention is being paid to the need for statistically educated citizens: statistics is now included in the K-12 mathematics curriculum, increasing numbers of students are taking courses in high school, and introductory statistics courses are required in college. However, increasing the amount of instruction is not sufficient to prepare statistically literate citizens. A major change is needed in how statistics is taught. To bring about this change, three dimensions of teacher knowledge need to be addressed: their knowledge of statistical content, their pedagogical knowledge, and their statistical-pedagogical knowledge, i.e., their specific knowledge about how to teach statistics. This book is written for mathematics and statistics educators and researchers. It summarizes the research and highlights the important concepts for teachers to emphasize, and shows the interrelationships among concepts. It makes specific suggestions regarding how to build classroom activities, integrate technological tools, and assess students’ learning. This is a unique book. While providing a wealth of examples through lessons and data sets, it is also the best attempt by members of our profession to integrate suggestions from research findings with statistics concepts and pedagogy. The book’s message about the importance of listening to research is loud and clear, as is its message about alternative ways of teaching statistics. This book will impact instructors, giving them pause to consider: "Is what I’m doing now really the best thing for my students? What could I do better?" J. Michael Shaughnessy, Professor, Dept of Mathematical Sciences, Portland State University, USA This is a much-needed text for linking research and practice in teaching statistics. The authors have provided a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in statistics education research. The insights they have gleaned from the literature should be tremendously helpful for those involved in teaching and researching introductory courses. Randall E. Groth, Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education, Salisbury University, USA

Innovation Systems And Capabilities In Developing Regions written by Willie Siyanbola and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-23 with Business & Economics categories.

In today's knowledge-driven world, innovation and innovation systems have become key policy issues. However, the extent of knowledge that is available on these concepts in less developed countries is still relatively low. Much of what we know about innovation theory and systems has come from the developed countries and reflects their world view. This apparent knowledge deficit has major implications for less developed countries. Innovation Systems and Capabilities in Developing Regions adds to the growing body of knowledge on developing countries. The theoretical and empirical case studies presented here advance the notion that, while developing countries may not engage in frontier research, a critical knowledge base upon which these countries compete for global markets is emerging. There is evidence that state and non-state actors are increasingly emphasising policies that sit within the framework of national innovation systems. This book illuminates this shift in policy competence at national levels. The contributions in this volume highlight the need for thorough understanding of the role of diffusion-based innovation linked to technology transfer and acquisition. They also provide empirical evidence on the drivers, dynamics and impact of such innovation in developing economies and the constraints that apply. Contributors also document the application of the innovation system approach in developing countries as well as the build-up and diffusion of technological capabilities within innovation systems. Academics, higher level students, policy makers and practitioners involved with innovation and the economics of technical change, particularly in developing countries, will find this a valuable book.
