The purpose of this study was to develop leadership skills in gifted students. Students learned leadership skills through their study of former and current leaders, through class discussions after leadership activities, and by working together to plan, carry out, and evaluate a celebration of the United States Constitution. Teacher observations, student journals, the Roets Rating Scale for Leadership, Venn diagrams, and a leadership rubric were used to measure leadership development. Results of the study showed that leadership skills could be developed, though students who were considered leaders before the unit, remained the leaders at the end of the unit. However, students gained more confidence in sharing their opinions with the group, were more aware of their leadership strengths, and had an increase in their attitudes toward leadership roles.

Gifted students may possess the seeds of gifted leadership or may be expected to lead because of their intellectual capacities. And, as with any potentiality, leadership ability should be developed. This book looks beyond current definitions and examples of leadership to offer a framework within which to cultivate skills and abilities of leaders for this millennium. The curriculum nurtures leadership potential in elementary gifted learners through mini-lessons and activities that are structured around the four leadership frames developed by Bolman and Deal, researchers in organizational leadership. Gifted leaders may or may not be born. But they definitely can be fostered. Grades 3-6

LEARN TO MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR GIFTED CHILD Though academic abilities have always been important in determining whether your child is gifted, talent in the visual or performing arts, leadership qualities, and intellectual curiosity are just as vital. But unless we as parents help nurture those talents, our gifted children can become bored, socially aggressive, or, ironically, underachievers in the classroom. Here is a practical, informative, and authoritative primer for raising and educating our gifted children from pre-school to adolescence. Beginning with sensible strategies to determine whether—and in which areas—your child is gifted, this book takes parents through selecting an appropriate day-care center, a school, and a home reference library. It helps us figure out where our role stops and the school’s role begins, as well as detailing ways to keep our children’s creativity alive and how to cope with sibling rivalry and our own doubts and fears. Also included are a recommended reading list, a special section on the roles of the computer and television in your gifted child’s life, and much more.

Developing Leadership In The Asia Pacific written by Sivanes Phillipson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-26 with Education categories.

Developing Leadership in the Asia-Pacific focuses on the design of leadership programs that are able to meet the needs of students, teachers and the wider community. Rather than taking an all-encompassing approach that cover all contexts of leadership development, this book is based on research that guides the leadership teacher in designing a course that takes into account the specific context and needs of individual students, the purpose of the course, and how the course can be evaluated for its effectiveness. Emphasising learner diversity, the book argues that the students’ specific cultural and educational contexts need to be taken into account when designing leadership programs. Although these courses are often taught outside of the regular curriculum, components of leadership can be found in the regular curriculum. Accordingly, this book helps the leadership teacher to integrate the leadership program with the regular curriculum through the use of guiding questions, quizzes, case studies, dilemmas, and other pedagogical strategies. It links research with practice, scaffolding teachers in understanding the content or issues described in each chapter, assisting them in building a fully defensible leadership program. A number of real life worked examples are also provided throughout each chapter as a practicable framework that can be used in teaching design for everyday units of work. This book is a useful reference for researchers working in leadership as well as an essential tool for teachers developing leadership programs for students in primary, secondary or tertiary contexts.
