Devi Mahatmayam, also known as Durga Saptashati, Sri Chandi or Saptashati, is from the Markandeya Mahapuran. Devi Mahatmayamm literally means 'Glory of the Goddess' . Here the seven hundred mantra story describes the victory of the Goddess over the Asuras (Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura and Shambha-Nishumbha) - representing the conquest and freedom from the tamsik Mahakali (Chapter 1), rajsik Mahalakshmi (Chapters 2-4) and satvik Mahasaraswati (Chapters 5-13) forces. Her adversaries represent the all-too-human impulses arising from the pursuit of power, possessions, pleasure and from the illusions of self-importance. The Devi, personified as one supreme Goddess and many goddesses, confronts the demons within us - representing the field of human consciousness within each person.

As you read this Devi Mahatmyam, you will feel the joy, the power and the wonder of the Divine Mother. At its simplest level, the Devi Mahatmyam is the battle between good and evil. But on that battlefield, the majesty of the Mother Goddess should not be underestimated. She does not wage wars with the aid of grand armies or divine allies. She alone is the source and the strength. In a new translation of this sacred text, Lyndal Vercoe offers a direct and devotional rendering. This is not just a description of Divine Power. It is a worship and a praise of God as the Mother of the Universe. Say those words to yourself and feel their meaning: the Mother of the Universe. This is not just a historical text. This is a prayer to be read aloud. It is an epic poem, a true song of praise that should echo through the days of our lives. Listen carefully and you will feel the spirit within. This is a Devi Mahatmyam for our time.

Presents the mystery of the Divine Mother in all her manifold aspects • Explores more than 30 different goddess aspects of the Shakti force, both beneficial and malefic • Includes Sanskrit hymns and classic verses by Sri Auribindo for each of the goddesses Shakti is synonymous with the Devi, the Divine Mother or divine power that manifests, sustains, and transforms the universe. She is the womb of all creatures, and it is through her that the One becomes the many. Our first and primary relationship to the world is through the mother, the source of love, security, and nourishment. Extending this relationship to worship of a cosmic being as mother was a natural step found not only in the Shakti cult of Hinduism but also in ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Babylonian cultures. Shakti presents more than 30 goddess incarnations of the Divine Mother that represent both the beneficial and malefic aspects of the Shakti force. From Lakshmi, Parvati, and Saraswati to Durga, Chandika, and Kali--each of the different functions of the female goddesses in the Hindu pantheon is revealed, accompanied by traditional Sanskrit hymns, classic verses by Sri Auribindo, and discussions of tantric philosophy. The author draws from the Devi Bhagavatham, which describes all the stories of Shakti, and the Devi Mahatmyam, the most powerful scriptural text that glorifies Shakti in her form as Durga. Using these texts she shows that through the power and grace of the Divine Mother we may be released from the darkness of ignorance and taken to the abode of knowledge, immortality, and bliss--the source from which we have come.

This remarkable book is the crowning achievement of the great scholar of Hinduism D. Dennis Hudson. Although Hudson died without completing it, the work has been brought to fruition by editor Margaret Case. The book is a finely detailed study of a renowned Tamil Hindu temple, the Vaikuntha Perumal (ca. 770 C.E.). Hudson uses this temple as an illustration of one major current and historical stage in South Indian Vaisnava religion. He offers a sustained reading of the temple as a coherent, organized, minutely conceptualized mandala whose code can be cracked by close analysis of the temple iconography and structure in the light of major literary and religious texts.

Hidden Journey written by Andrew Harvey and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-31 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Andrew Harvey, an Anglo-Indian novelist and poet, expands on the spiritual transformation that he described in part in Journey in Ladakh. Beginning in 1978 when he first met Meera, the Indian woman who would be his Master, Harvey (who at the time was teaching literature in England and the US), struggled for-- and against-- enlightenment for nine years. With other disciples he followed Meera, who he came to see as Ma, the Divine Mother. In India and then in Germany, under her guidance, he confronted his confused sexuality, his attachment to intellect and reason, his pride and his fears. Harvey's precise, passionately told story will touch sceptics as well as seekers.

While the complete Sri Guru Gita is 400 verses long, this book contains the in-depth commentary of Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda on what He considers the most important 182 verses of this scripture, which is focused entirely on praises that show us how to open up the heart to receive Divine Grace. Sanskrit verses and translations are included in this selection. Paramahamsa Vishwananda says, "The Sri Guru Gita is one of the most wonderful songs which shows us that everything happens only through the Grace of the Guru." Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda is a fully realised spiritual Master, whose international mission, known as Bhakti Marga, 'the path of devotion', is based in the heart of Europe. He travels the world to encourage all people to recognise the universal Love that lies within each human being, and to awaken their innate ability to express that Love in daily life.
