Between 1930 and 1938, Jesus Christ came to Sister Faustina (1905-1938), a Sister of Mercy in Poland, to remind us of His love even in the face of death and His disappointment in us due to our mistrust in His compassion and mercy. Through Sister Faustina, Jesus later shared the two exquisite devotions, the Novena to the Divine Mercy and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, with humanity. In the divine messages conveyed to Sister Faustina, Our Lord made a specific entreaty, urging a dedicated prayer and contemplation upon His Passion each day at the hour of three o'clock-a moment that solemnizes His crucifixion. At three o'clock in the afternoon, Jesus spoke to Sister Faustina, "Begin to beg for My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a short while, lose yourself in My passion, especially in My abandonment at the hour of anguish." This is the most merciful hour. I will grant any request made by any soul in this hour because of my passion. Within the pages of "The Divine Mercy Novena," you'll proceed on a sacred expedition of grace, mercy, and redemption. The history of the Divine Mercy devotion is deeply rooted in the experiences and writings of a Polish nun named Saint Faustina Kowalska, who lived in the early 20th century. The essence of the devotion revolves around the infinite mercy of God, as emphasized in the visions and teachings Saint Faustina received.Saint Faustina Kowalska: Born in 1905 in Poland, Helena Kowalska entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in 1925. She later took the name Sister Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament. Throughout her life, she claimed to have mystical experiences and visions of Jesus Christ, particularly emphasizing His Divine Mercy. When I walked into church the following morning, I heard these words inside of me: "Every time you enter the chapel, recite the prayer that I taught you yesterday." I heard in my spirit when I finished the petition, "This prayer will serve to appease My wrath." It will be said for nine days on the rosary beads in the following way: You will say, "HAIL MARY," "ONE OUR FATHER," and "I BELIEVE IN GOD" first. Then, using the OUR FATHER beads, you will recite the following: "In order to atone for our sins as well as the sins of the entire world, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ." Say the following on the HAIL MARY beads: "Have mercy on us and on the whole world, for the sake of His sorrowful Passion." Finally, you shall say these three times: "Have mercy on us and on the entire world, Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One" (Diary, 474-476). "Oh, what wonderful blessings I will bestow upon those who recite this chaplet... My daughter, please write these words down. Tell the world of My kindness; let all people know of My boundless compassion. It is an omen of the end times; the day of justice will follow. Let them drink from the fountain of My mercy while there is still time; let them benefit from the Water and Blood that flowed forth for them (Diary, 848).

For over twenty years, the author has researched and toured the country, giving talks, retreats, and seminars on Divine Mercy. Most of these have been given at the request of, or for, the John Paul II Institute of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, or the Life Foundation Ministries in Bernalillo, New Mexico. The author has found that many have not seriously read St. Faustinas diary, finding it too difficult and confusing, since it does not follow the normal diary format. Many have attempted reading other books and found them too detailed or filled with generalities. A Divine Mercy Resource has been designed as a single resource for priests, deacons, religious instructors, and devotees of Divine Mercy. Each chapter covers one aspect of the devotione.g., the chaplet, the image, the novena, etc.and is complete with full quotes and footnotes at the bottom of each page. As a vital resource, it will further an understanding of Divine Mercy and the essential devotionals associated with it, giving priests, deacons, teachers, and laity the tools to promote the message, mission and devotion to Divine Mercy.
